One of the largest legal sports betting brands in America is expanding its reach.
SuperBook Sports has gone live with online wagering in Virginia, marking the company’s ninth jurisdiction for sports betting in the U.S. SuperBook, which is based at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, is one of 16 online betting sites to be issued a wagering license in Virginia.
"We couldn't be happier with our continued growth,” said SuperBook CEO Mark Lipparelli in a statement. “We are thrilled to be live in Virginia and feel confident that we have a great product with a strong history that will become a fast favorite of sports bettors in the region.”
SuperBook has steadily bolstered its market share with the addition of Virginia. In April, the company was granted a wagering license by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission. SuperBook was given the license after a controlled demonstration of its app.
The sportsbook officially went live in Maryland with its online sports betting app on May 9.
SuperBook is also live in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Stable market
Virginia has emerged as a promising market for SuperBook.
The Virginia Lottery reported a $319 million sports betting handle in August, up from $293.6 million for the month prior. The results also marked a 12% uptick compared to August 2022.
Virginia saw $315.6 million of its August handle funnel through online sports betting operators while just $3.3 million in wagers were placed at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks. Operators in the Old Dominion combined for $27.9 million in adjusted revenue along with a $4.1 million tax bill.
