KBO Picks

ESPN Game of the Day: NC Dinos (20-6) vs Hanwha Eagles (7-20)

Probable Pitchers: Mike Wright (3-1, 3.21 ERA) vs Shi-hwan Jang (1-3, 6.93 ERA)

Well, that NC Dinos “skid” was short-lived. They’ve won three of their last four games, plating a ridiculous 38 runs over that stretch. Next up, they begin a series with the Hanwha Eagles. NC took two-of-three from the Eagles just a few weeks ago, including a 10-5 win in the series finale that featured the exact same pitching matchup as today.

The Dinos’ Mike Wright was actually perfect through four innings before giving up four runs on two hits in that matchup, while Eagles’ starter Shi-hawn Jang gave up four runs on six hits.

Jang has struggled all season with a 6.93 ERA and 2.11 WHIP, but he is just one of the problems though: The Eagles also have one of the KBO’s worst bullpens, and that won’t bode well against a potent Dinos lineup.

Pick: NC Dinos -1.5 (-145)

Kia Tigers (15-12) vs Doosan Bears (16-10)

Probable Pitchers: Min-woo Lee (3-0, 3.23 ERA) vs Young-ha Lee (1-2, 5.14 ERA)

The Kia Tigers have quietly climbed the standings, thanks to some excellent starting pitching. Only the Dinos have a better ERA from their starters, and the Tigers hope that continues Friday when they hand the ball to Min-woo Lee in the series opener versus the Doosan Bears.

Lee owns a 1.11 WHIP and looks to be getting better with each start. He has been able to limit hard contact, which will be key against a dangerous Bears’ lineup, although the Bears have been a little feast or famine at the plate over their last 10 games.

Meanwhile, Doosan’s Young-ha Lee is in a slump, allowing 13 runs on 22 hits over his last three starts and has an ugly 1.82 WHIP overall this year. The Tigers have a capable lineup, but with a worrisome bullpen, look at them to have the lead after five.

Pick: Tigers -0.5 First 5 Innings (+131)

KT Wiz (11-15) vs Lotte Giants (11-15)

Probable Pitchers: Min-soo Kim (0-2, 14.14 ERA), Jun-won Seo (2-1, 4.23)

The Lotte Giants (Waffles) are still slumping offensively, scoring just seven runs while getting swept by the Kiwoom Heroes. But Friday’s series opener against the KT Wiz is an intriguing one.

The Giants send Jun-won Seo to the mound, and to say 2020 has been a roller coaster for the 19-year-old would be an understatement: Seo dominated this Wiz team with six shutout innings in his first start of the season, then gave up 12 runs in the next two starts. He's followed that up by allowing just one run on eight hits over his last two outings.

The Wiz counter with Min-soo Kim, a reliever making his first start of the season. The right-hander has been roughed up, surrendering 11 runs on 20 hits in seven innings, and to top it off KT will then will have to hand the ball off to the KBO’s worst bullpen.

If the Waffles’ bats are going to wake up, it’s in this spot.

Pick: Lotte Giants (-103)

KBO Betting Record: 39-32, +6.11 units
