Robbie Ray has been nothing short of stellar this year for the San Francisco Giants. As Quinn Allen explains, he will induce plenty of swings and misses vs. the Padres today.

The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants meet this afternoon in National League West action at Oracle Park in the Bay Area.

Robbie Ray has been dominating this season, and my Padres vs Giants predictions will dive into why he will continue that trend against a divisional rival.

I break the matchup down further with my MLB picks for Thursday, June 5.

Padres vs Giants prediction

My Padres vs Giants best bet: Robbie Ray 7+ strikeouts (+120 at Caesars)

Robbie Ray missed a lot of last season due to injury, but he’s now back and better than ever. The veteran is 7-1 in 12 starts with a 2.43 ERA so far, striking out 78 hitters in just 70.1 innings of work. Ray has always had swing and miss stuff, and it’s on full display right now.

The lefty has collected 7+ Ks in six of his last seven outings. Ray struck out nine Miami Marlins hitters in his last appearance on May 31 — a seven-inning, one-run masterpiece. The 33-year-old is striking out 27.3% of the batters he’s facing.

The former All-Star didn’t face the San Diego Padres last year, but he’s had success against this current lineup. They’re hitting only .200 versus Ray, and he’s collected 13 punchouts in 55 at-bats. San Diego doesn’t strike out a ton, but Ray is elite, and he’s struck out 38 in 38 frames at home in ‘25.

Lastly, Ray thrives in day games with an ERA below two, and 33 Ks in 31.1 innings. He’ll shine today.

Padres vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)

Robbie Ray 7+ strikeouts

Dylan Cease 6+ strikeouts

Manny Machado Over 0.5 hits

While I’m expecting Ray to rack up the strikeouts, I’m also eyeing Dylan Cease to do the same. Although it’s been a disappointing campaign to his standards with a 4.66 ERA, Cease still has strikeout stuff. He’s compiled 78 Ks in 63.2 innings of work.

Cease has posted at least six punchouts in five consecutive starts. In fact, he’s only had two outings all year where he’s struck out fewer than six. Also, Cease is holding the San Francisco Giants' lineup to a .200 average, collecting a staggering 24 Ks in only 60 at-bats.

Manny Machado is having a very nice season for the Padres. The veteran is batting .314 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs. He’s averaging 1.16 hits per game in 70 contests. The third baseman has cashed the Over in hits in three of his last four.

Machado even had four hits in Tuesday’s matchup with the Giants. He’s 3 for 13 lifetime against Ray with a pair of home runs, and he’s also batting .317 against left-handed hurlers. Machado should produce some offense this afternoon.
