MLB Player Props for 9-17: Best Bets for Alonso, Rooker, & Vaughn

Brent Rooker has never slumped for long during what's easily a career season and he's been a profitable bat to back. Why stop now? He headlines our favorite MLB player props tonight in a matchup against struggling Cubs SP Jordan Wicks.

Brent Rooker is enjoying a breakout season and I've been enjoying tailing his batting props for the last few months.

My MLB player props are tailing Rooker once again while also backing New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso and Chicago White Sox 1B Andrew Vaughn on Tuesday, September 17

MLB props for September 17

Today’s best MLB props

Prop bet #1: Pete Alonso Over 1.5 total bases

+135 at bet365

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been in a slump this month but is in a good spot to snap out of that today against Washington Nationals lefty Mitchell Parker.

Parker has a 6.25 ERA with an OBA of .288 in six starts on the road. He also allows plenty of hard contact and ranks in the bottom 25th percentile in ground ball rate, which is bad news against a power-hitter like Alonso but good news for our MLB picks.

The four-time All-Star also thrives with the platoon advantage, slugging .507 against lefties, and he'll benefit from home-field advantage. It also helps that the Nats have a poor bullpen behind Mitchell with their relievers 28th in the majors in OBA (.259).

This is a five-star prop play according to THE BAT X, which projects 1.8 total bases for Alonso today.

Prop bet #2: Brent Rooker Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs

-135 at DraftKings

I've been riding the Over on Brent Rooker's hitting props for months and there's no reason to stop now. The Oakland A's outfielder is having a career year, slashing .302/.371/.585 while tallying 109 RBI and plating 79 runs in 134 games.

Since the A's play their home games at pitcher-friendly Oakland Coliseum, Rooker performs better on the road, where he slugs .619. Today, he's batting at Wrigley Field, which has the fifth-most suitable weather conditions for hitting on today's slate.

The Chicago Cubs send struggling southpaw Jordan Wicks and his 5.27 ERA to the hill. Rooker slugs .630 against lefties and has been red-hot lately, slashing .365/.402/.682 over the last 20 games.

Prop bet #3: Andrew Vaughn Over 0.5 RBI

-135 at bet365

Andrew Vaughn has been one of the few bright spots in an ugly season for the Chicago White Sox. The first baseman leads Chicago in virtually every hitting category, slashing .248/.301/.410 with 66 RBI.

Vaughn has been red-hot this month, slashing .370/.420.630, and he's raised his exit velocity to 94.9 mph over the last week. Today, Vaughn and the White Sox face Los Angeles Angels right-hander starter Griffin Canning, who has a 5.35 ERA through 156 1/3 innings. Canning has been even worse since the start of July, pitching to a 6.32 ERA with an OBA of .282 over 12 starts.

With Vaughn batting cleanup, bet on him to drive in a run at +170.
