Jacob deGrom and Shohei Ohtani both pitching on the same day? It’s a baseball junkie and MLB prop bettor’s dream!

Yup, deGrom and the New York Mets take on the Milwaukee Brewers while Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels travel to Fenway Park to face the Boston Red Sox. But where is the betting value in backing the MVP front runners?

We break down and pick these games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Tuesday, July 6.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Mets -0.5 4 1/2 Inning Runline (-125)

Want more evidence about how unfair New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom is? The right-hander is in a slump and a deGrom slump consists of him allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out 19 in his last 13 innings. Yeah. He good.

The National League MVP betting favorite takes the mound again Tuesday night against a surging Milwaukee Brewers team that has dropped two in a row but is 13-3 in its last 16 games overall. But even with the recent surge, the Brew Crew still ranks 29th in batting average and 26th in strikeouts per game. That does not bode well against a guy who limits opponents to a .122 average and strikes out 14.4 batters per nine innings.

The Brewers counter deGrom with journeyman Brett Anderson, who has been solid at times this season but is coming off a month of June where he pitched to a 5.74 ERA and had a .292 opponent batting average. Even the struggling Mets lineup should be able to do something with that. Take them to have the lead halfway through this one.

Jose Urena Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-150)

Detroit Tigers starter Jose Urena has almost reached Matt Harvey levels of fade-ability. Urena is pitching to a 6.22 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP over his 15 starts this season and the right-hander had a particularly bad month of June, where those already-rough numbers ballooned 12.50 and 2.33.

Those numbers are ugly enough that even a slumping Texas Rangers squad should be able to take advantage. The Rangers sit in last place in the American League West and while they have some big boppers, the offense isn’t anything to write home about.

But over the last few weeks, they have shown some signs of life. The Rangers are plating 5.0 runs per game over their last 14 contests and rank eighth in batting average and 11th in OPS against right-handers over that span.

With Urena surrendering at least three runs in each of his last five starts and seven of his last eight overall, we’re betting this trend continues.

Angels-Red Sox Under 4.5 Five-Inning Total (-110)

It’s Sho-time!

Two-way star Shohei Ohtani takes the mound for the Los Angeles Angels as they visit the Boston Red Sox Tuesday night at Fenway Park. Ohtani, who is currently the betting favorite to win the American League MVP, is looking to bounce back after his worst start of the season and slow down a BoSox team that has won 10 of its last 11 overall.

Ohtani’s old issue of battling his command came back, as he got roughed up by the Yankees in his previous start, lasting just 2-3 of an inning, allowing seven earned runs on two hits and four walks.

Prior to that, Ohtani was in a groove. He had recorded a quality start in four of his five previous starts, pitching to a 2.79 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over that span. While he faces a strong Boston offense in this one, if anyone can slow them down, it’s Ohtani, who is limiting opponents to a .198 batting average this season.

Countering Ohtani in this one is Nathan Eovaldi, and the Red Sox right-hander is dealing. Eovaldi has allowed just four earned runs with a 0.95 WHIP over his last four starts and has pitched into the seventh inning in three of those starts.

We like pitching to be the story early in this one.

It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
