Gunnar Henderson owns the Rays. Over the last 17 matchups, the Orioles star has racked up 28 hits against Tampa Bay, consistently punishing their pitching staff.
While Henderson has been quiet lately, our Rays vs. Orioles predictions sees this as the perfect bounce-back spot. History says he’s due—and Tampa Bay hasn’t figured out how to stop him yet.
Let’s break it all down with my June 27 MLB picks.
Rays vs Orioles prediction
My Rays vs Orioles best bet: Gunnar Henderson Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (-120 at bet365)
⚾ Pick Analysis
Gunnar Henderson has hit a wall of late, failing to clear this line in five consecutive games while going hitless in each. Both are his longest droughts of the season.
Henderson is in a good spot to turn things around Friday night. Henderson draws Ryan Pepiot, a hittable righty who he is very familiar with from inner-division battles.
He has excelled against right-handed pitchers all season long, hitting .307 with a .201 ISO. Those numbers are night-and-day compared to what he’s managed against lefties (.204 average, .061 ISO).
The numbers are even more favorable when isolating against right-handed arms throwing Pepiot’s three key pitches (fastball, slider, changeup). Henderson possesses a .330 average on the season against righties when filtering other pitches out.
Henderson has nine career at bats against Pepiot. He’s managed three hits in that span, including a longball.
Also working in Henderson’s favor is home field. The Baltimore Orioles play in one of the league’s most hitter-friendly parks, and that’s clearly made a difference for Henderson.
He has recorded multiple Hits + Runs + RBI in 54% of home games this season compared to a 42% hit rate on the road.
Playing in a hitter-friendly environment against a pitcher he profiles very well against, Henderson should make some noise in this one.
Rays vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)
🚀 SGP Analysis
Junior Caminero is enjoying a big breakout season for the Rays. He is hitting a solid .260 on the season with 20 home runs, good for ninth in the majors.
He's found a way to marry contact with power and has been a driving force for a Tampa Bay Rays team that sits only half a game back of the New York Yankees for tops in the AL East.
Caminero is in a nice spot to do damage against Tomoyuki Sugano. He has allowed a .278 average to righties on the season, but that number soars to .321 when playing in Baltimore.
He has also given up a lot of power, posting subpar metrics when it comes to barrel rate, hard hit rate, and line drive rate.
Caminero hits Sugano’s pitch mix very well, sporting a .289 average and .378 ISO against his most prominent pitches the past month.
Given we’re backing two of the most dynamic hitters in this game to have big offensive performances, it only makes sense to target the Over.
Not to mention, Pepiot’s numbers are not as good on the road, while Sugano has gone through more struggles on home turf. Look for the bats to take advantage.
