It’s been a rough start to the season for both the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers, who meet Wednesday night at Intuit Dome for a battle of teams missing their stars.

Philadelphia has leaned heavily on Tyrese Maxey to carry the offensive load, and my 76ers vs. Clippers predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, November 6, expect that to continue.

76ers vs Clippers prediction

My best bet
Tyrese Maxey Over 27.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
Coming off his first All-Star appearance last season and winning Most Improved Player, Tyrese Maxey is third in the league in points per game (30.2) and is essentially the Philadelphia 76ers entire offense.

Maxey is coming off a 32-point performance against the Phoenix Suns after having put up 45 last week in the 76ers’ lone win of the season against the Indiana Pacers. His usage is the key to Philly staying afloat without Embiid.

He knows it too based on how frequently he’s pulling from deep. Maxey leads the league in 3-point attempts (11.8), and that should come in handy against a Los Angeles Clippers squad allowing the sixth-most threes per game and the fourth-highest 3-point percentage (38.1%).

When he’s not pulling from deep, Maxey’s routinely been getting to the charity stripe and sits 11th in the league in both free throws attempted per game (7.3) and free throws made per game (6.0).

His penchant for drawing fouls is ideal against a Clippers team in the top half of the league in free throws allowed per game (18.0).

Overall, it almost doesn’t matter how Maxey is shooting because his volume is just so absurd. He’s the only player in the NBA taking over 25 shots per game (25.3) and he’s got the 16th-highest usage rate of players who play at least 20 minutes per game (30.6%).

Plus, he leads the league in minutes with 41 per game, nearly four minutes more than Mikal Bridges, who’s second in the league with 37.2.

So, while the Clippers' defense has been strong despite being down Kawhi Leonard, I expect Maxey to keep up his pace of averaging 33 points per game over his last four outings.

76ers vs Clippers same-game parlay

Tyrese Maxey Over 27.5 points

James Harden Over 9.5 assists

Ivica Zubac Over 11.5 rebounds

With Embiid and Leonard out, this game’s going to be all about the guard play of Maxey and James Harden. Like Maxey, Harden has taken on an even bigger role with the team’s franchise player out.

He’s not far behind Maxey in usage rate (29.6%), and his playmaking ability looks as good as ever. While reaching double-digit assists is a tall ask, Harden’s averaging the third-most per game in the league (9.9) and has had 10+ in four of his last six games.

Philadelphia’s defense has also been lackluster this season, ranking 21st in defensive rating (117.2) and allowing the eighth-most assists per game in the league (27.0). Another department it has struggled with is rebounding while being without Embiid.

The 76ers are second-last in rebounds per game (39.8) and allowing the sixth-most per game (46.8). That’s perfect for Ivica Zubac, who’s second in the league in rebounds per game (13.0) and has had 12-plus in six straight games.
