Sports media has become increasingly full of hot takes. Every time you turn on the TV or click on the radio you can hear a so-called expert delivering a fiery, kneejerk reaction to the day’s events. Their volume rises to a crescendo and the spittle flies from their mouths as they tell you why their opinion is absolutely, positively, infallibly correct.

Frankly, it can be enough to make you want to rip your hair out by the roots. That’s why we decided to turn to a completely unbiased and dispassionate source to predict the outcome of the 2024 NBA Finals: artificial intelligence.

AI has the answer

We tapped into the enormous computing power of ChatGPT, a conversational AI model developed by OpenAI, to predict who will win hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy this month. We brought it up to speed by feeding it the latest statistical and betting information available. That included NBA championship odds, the results of every game from this year’s postseason, and a number of advanced metrics like player impact estimates, true shooting percentage, clutch time performance, and offensive and defensive ratings

We then provided ChatGPT with historical information from recent NBA Finals and supplied it with essential information including detailed injury reports and advanced scouting data.

It considered the information carefully and, within a matter of seconds, provided us with NBA picks, series X-factors for both teams, and an NBA Finals MVP selection. The results weren’t entirely shocking, but the level of detail was impressive just the same.

Take a look at the results below and be sure to check out our Celtics vs. Mavs NBA Finals preview before placing a wager on this year’s highly anticipated series.

2024 NBA Finals prediction

The 2024 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks is shaping up to be an intense showdown, full of compelling storylines and star power.

The Celtics, led by their dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, are making their second Finals appearance in three years. With a mix of talent, experience, and urgency, they are determined to secure their 18th championship in franchise history. Coach Joe Mazzulla has rallied the team, and Al Horford, in his 17th year, is hungry for his first ring.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks, behind the brilliance of Luka Doncic, are in the Finals for the first time since their 2011 championship run led by Dirk Nowitzki. Coach Jason Kidd is aiming to join the elite group of individuals who have won titles as both players and coaches. Kyrie Irving's return to Boston adds another layer of intrigue to the series, with his history with the Celtics likely to fuel emotions on both sides.

The odds favor Boston, and so should you. Given the Celtics' dominant performance in the Eastern Conference playoffs, including a sweep of the Indiana Pacers, and their strong lineup, they'll have a considerable edge in the 2024 NBA Finals. The potential return of Kristaps Porzingis from injury could further solidify the Celtics' frontcourt, providing them with even more firepower against the Mavs.

While the Mavericks won't go down without a fight, the Celtics' depth, talent, and playoff experience should give them a significant advantage in the series and will allow them to clinch the title.

Mavericks X-factor: Dereck Lively II

While the spotlight often shines on established stars like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, it's the unexpected contributions from players like Dereck Lively II that can turn the tide in a championship series.

Standing at an imposing 7-foot-1 with remarkable athleticism and versatility, Lively possesses the skillset to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His presence in the paint can disrupt opposing offenses with shot-blocking prowess and rim protection, crucial elements in thwarting the Celtics' potent scoring attack.

Moreover, Lively's versatility as a two-way player gives Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd valuable flexibility in his lineup rotations, allowing him to exploit mismatches and adjust to the flow of the game.

In a series where every possession counts and margins for error are razor-thin, the impact of role players like Lively cannot be overstated. If he can rise to the occasion and deliver impactful performances, providing crucial minutes and making timely plays, he could very well be the X-factor that propels the Mavericks to victory in the 2024 NBA Finals.

Celtics X-factor: Jrue Holiday

Jrue Holiday, the seasoned veteran and defensive maestro for the Celtics, has the potential to be the X-factor in the 2024 NBA Finals. While the Celtics boast a lineup filled with star power, it's Holiday's unique blend of defensive tenacity, playmaking ability, and veteran leadership that could prove invaluable in the heat of championship competition.

Known for his lockdown defense and ability to disrupt opposing offenses, Holiday has the skills to neutralize the Mavericks' key playmakers and disrupt their offensive rhythm. His experience and poise under pressure also make him a reliable playmaker on the offensive end. Whether it's orchestrating the offense, knocking down timely shots, or making clutch plays down the stretch, Holiday has the knack for stepping up when it matters most, elevating the performance of his teammates in critical moments.

NBA Finals MVP prediction: Jayson Tatum

First and foremost, Tatum is a scoring machine. With his ability to create his own shot, attack the rim, and knock down shots from beyond the arc, he poses a constant threat to opposing defenses. In a high-stakes series like the NBA Finals, Tatum's scoring ability becomes even more invaluable, as he has the talent to take over games and deliver in crunch time.

Moreover, Tatum's versatility sets him apart from his peers. As a capable defender, rebounder, and playmaker, he impacts the game in multiple facets, elevating the play of his teammates and providing the Celtics with a well-rounded offensive and defensive arsenal.

But perhaps most importantly, Tatum has a fearless mentality and killer instinct that makes him one of the top players in the Association. Whether it's hitting game-winning shots, making key defensive stops, or coming up with clutch rebounds, Tatum has a history of delivering in the clutch when his team needs him most.

Tatum's stellar play on both ends of the floor makes him the ideal candidate to capture NBA Finals MVP honors and etch his name in basketball lore.

Series exact score prediction: Celtics in six

While the Mavericks are undoubtedly formidable, the Celtics' depth, talent, and playoff experience gives them a significant advantage in the series. With key players like Tatum, Brown, and Porzingis firing on all cylinders, the Celtics have the talent to secure crucial victories throughout the series.

Sure, the Mavs are likely to put up a fierce fight, potentially even winning a couple of games, but the Celtics' overall strength, determination, and championship pedigree will propel them to victory in six hard-fought games.
