The Brooklyn Nets have won three of their last four games and now have a chance to make a statement against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks. Last year, the Hawks went to the Eastern Conference Finals, so this would be a nice home win if the Nets can get it.
The betting odds for this game currently have the Nets around five-point favorites. Will Brooklyn take care of business at Barclays Center? You’ll want to keep reading our Hawks vs. Nets picks and predictions to get the answer.

Spread analysis
Last season, Atlanta covered the spread in all three of its meetings with Brooklyn, and the Hawks also earned an ATS win over the Nets in their final meeting of the previous season. Look for Atlanta to once again give Brooklyn everything it can handle, as the Hawks match up pretty well with this Nets team right now.
With Kyrie Irving not playing and James Harden off to an inconsistent start, Young will be the most dynamic guard on the floor in this game. Last year, he averaged 26.3 points and 10.7 assists per game in three meetings with the Nets, and his ability to make plays off the bounce will be tough for his opponent to contain. Normally, Harden would be able to match Young’s offensive prowess, but the superstar is still working his way back into shape from last year’s hamstring injury. Harden noticeably lacks the burst he had a few years ago, and he’s not drawing fouls the way he used to. With that, Atlanta has the edge in the backcourt in this game.
As for the wing positions, there’s nobody on the planet that can keep up with Kevin Durant. The star should have a pretty big game against the Hawks tonight, but Atlanta does have a few big bodies to throw on him in this one. Whether it’s De’Andre Hunter, Danilo Gallinari or Cam Reddish, the Hawks will always have somebody with length covering Durant. They’ll also have Clint Capela — one of the best rim protectors in the league — waiting to stop anybody that gets all the way to the basket. Durant might not shoot the ball poorly here, but the constant size Atlanta will throw at him could tire him out and force him into tough shots.
All in all, it’s not hard to imagine the Nets winning this game at home, but the Hawks should be able to keep it close. This game could very well come down to the final possession or two.
Prediction: Hawks +5.5 (-115)
Over/Under analysis
The Over hasn’t hit in a single game that Brooklyn has played this season, and we could be looking at another low-scoring affair tonight. This Nets team is currently ninth in the league in defensive rating, and the Hawks are better than their 17th-ranked defense this season. Atlanta’s season opener against Dallas skewed the numbers to make the Hawks defense look too good early in the year, but a few bad performances on that end of the floor have overcorrected it in recent weeks. This should be a Top-12 defense when the season comes to an end.
It’s also important to note that the Nets are just 13th in the league in pace of play this season, and the Hawks are way behind at 25th. Neither of these teams play in any real rush, with the Nets often having Harden walk it up and the Hawks preferring a half-court style in which Young generally holds the ball.
If that’s not enough, the Under is 8-2 in Atlanta’s last 10 games as an underdog. It’s also 20-7-1 in Brooklyn’s last 28 games overall.
Prediction: Under 219.5 (-110)
Best bet
Bogdan Bogdanovic is a player that bettors should keep an eye on tonight. The sharpshooter’s point total is currently set at just 13.5, despite the fact that he has scored at least 14 in three of the past five games. Bogdanovic also averaged 14.5 points per game in two meetings with Brooklyn last season.
This matchup should go even better for the 29-year-old, as he’s likely going to see some time with Harden guarding him in this game. As previously mentioned, Harden isn’t moving all that well right now, and the lefty was guilty of losing shooters rather frequently to begin with. Don’t be surprised if a few breakdowns in this game leave Bogdanovic open for some clean looks at the basket. He’s also capable of creating his own look, making it likely he easily clears this total.
Pick: Bogdan Bogdanovic Over 13.5 points (-110)
