The Miami Heat will try to snap a four-game losing skid tonight when they visit the suddenly surging Detroit Pistons, who have won three of their last four contests.

Jimmy Butler has been cold for Miami with just 18 points per game during the team’s losing streak but will need to turn things around if he’s going to help his Heat cover the 7.5-point spread in the NBA odds.

Find out if Butler can get it going in my Heat vs. Pistons NBA picks and predictions for Friday, March 15.

Heat vs Pistons odds

Heat vs Pistons predictions

It’s been a rough week for the Miami Heat, who dropped four straight games and have now fallen to eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Miami’s last loss came at the hands of Denver on Wednesday as they fell 100-88, with Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler leading the team with just 17 and 15 points, respectively.

The losing streak has coincided with a cold stretch for Jimmy Buckets, who’s averaged just 18 ppg over his last four games while shooting under 44% from the field. The small forward, who averages 31% of his points from the free throw line, has taken only 16 free throws during this four-game stretch — half of his season average of eight per game.

That lack of offensive drive is why I’m looking for Butler to score Under 21.5 points as my best bet tonight.

The Detroit Pistons may be out of playoff contention but they’ve come alive during this final stretch of the season, earning nine of their 12 victories since January 15 while winning three of their last four.

Team defense has been a big part of Detroit’s recent success as they’ve held opponents to an average of 104 points over their last three wins. I’ll look for them to have a similar performance tonight by holding Butler to another low-scoring effort.

My best bet: Jimmy Butler Under 21.5 points (-110 at PROLINE+)

Heat vs Pistons same-game parlay

Pistons +7.5

Under 215.5

I’m taking the Pistons to cover the 7.5-point spread tonight as they’ve taken a lot of teams by surprise of late.

The health of Cade Cunningham, who’s listed as questionable for knee injury management, will play a big role in this game as he’s been the heart of Detroit’s offense, scoring 22.7 ppg in March. Assuming he’s good to go, the Pistons should keep this one close.

Miami and Detroit are two of the lower-scoring teams in the NBA and have cashed plenty of Unders of late. The Under is 4-0 in the Heat’s last four and 7-3 in the Pistons’ last 10.

Heat vs Pistons spread and Over/Under analysis

The Heat come into this matchup as the 8-point favorite but given the way both teams are playing, I’m taking the Pistons to go against the spread.

Everyone knows Detroit is at the bottom of the standings but that hasn’t stopped the Pistons from turning it up down the stretch as they’ve won three of their last four and four of their last eight, shocking teams like the Bulls and Nets along the way.

Even their losses have generally been tight games as the Pistons have fallen by eight points or fewer in three of their last six defeats, while going 7-3 ATS in their last 10 outings.

The Heat have trended the other way, going 1-5 ATS in their last six while also suffering a loss to the Pistons just a week and a half ago.

Tonight’s total opened at 213 points but snuck up to 215.5 or 216 at most books by this afternoon. With both clubs near the bottom of the NBA’s offensive leaderboards, I’m taking the Under tonight.

Miami ranks fourth last in scoring this season at 110.2 ppg while Detroit isn’t far ahead at 112.4 ppg. At the same time, the Heat are the league’s sixth-best defensive team (109.8 papg), while the Pistons have improved drastically in their own half down the stretch, holding opponents to 100.5 ppg in their last two games.

Neither team has many offensive weapons and with Butler gone cold, there likely won’t be much scoring tonight.
