Jazz vs Lakers Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Anthony Davis is looking like the No. 1 option the Lakers need him to be, and he'll fry a sad Utah frontcourt at home tonight.

The buzz is building around the Los Angeles Lakers as they bring a five-game win streak into tonight’s NBA Cup clash with the Utah Jazz.

L.A. is unbeaten at Crypto.com Arena this season, and my Jazz vs Lakers predictions call for more home cooking here, with Anthony Davis leading the charge.

Jazz vs Lakers prediction

My best bet
Anthony Davis Over 29.5 points (-115 at bet365)

My analysis
There aren’t many centers in the league who can contain this version of Anthony Davis — and there certainly aren’t any on the Jazz roster.

Walker Kessler’s hip injury leaves the Utah Jazz thin in the frontcourt and vulnerable to exactly this kind of matchup. I expect the Los Angeles Lakers to feed Davis early and often against John Collins and Lauri Markkanen, with predictable results.

Davis is coming off an explosive weekend, with 31 points on 12-for-20 shooting against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday on the heels of a 40-point outburst against the San Antonio Spurs the prior night. The door is wide open for more of the same tonight as the hosts push Davis more firmly into the No. 1 scorer role.

He’s averaging 10 free-throw attempts per game in November, and he’s even knocked down two 3-pointers in each of his last five games, going 10-for-16 from downtown in that stretch.

With LeBron James and Austin Reaves at the controls for L.A., I fear for a Utah defense short on perimeter stoppers, and that duo should have no trouble getting into the paint and putting baskets on a plate for AD, who has posted a 56% mark from the field this year.

The only major red flag is the blowout potential and the possibility of Davis sitting out the fourth quarter, but I see the Jazz scoring enough points to keep the Lakers’ starters on the court.

At 31.1 ppg, Davis is on pace for a career year. He currently trails only Giannis Antetokounmpo in the scoring charts, and I’m picking the L.A. big man to pad his numbers here despite some lingering foot pain.

Jazz vs Lakers same-game parlay

Anthony Davis Over 29.5 points

Lakers first half -7.5

John Collins Over 6.5 rebounds

The Lakers’ unbeaten start at home has powered them up to the No. 3 spot in the West, with JJ Redick’s rotation tweak bringing more balance to the bench unit. I expect the hosts to get off to a fast start here, and I’m laying the 7.5 points with L.A. for the 1H spread.

That’s also a reflection on what we’ve seen from the Jazz, who’ve posted a -8.3 point differential in their last three first halves. The visitors are 0-2 so far on this road trip, and they fell into a 66-45 half-time hole against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

We’ve seen some erratic numbers from the 3-10 Jazz this year, as you would expect with a struggling team, so that’s driven me away from most of their player props, but I see John Collins continuing his steady production in the Utah frontcourt.

Collins has been active on the glass, with at least eight rebounds in five straight games, and the Jazz will need all the size they can get against Davis. I’m taking the Over on this adjusted 6.5 line.
