Oddsmakers seem to have adjusted following the New York Knicks’ victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, as Philly is a fairly tepid 5.5-point favorite at home tonight after being favored by 4.5 points in MSG. Nonetheless, taking the points with the Knicks is my best bet tonight.
New York didn’t have much of an answer for Joel Embiid on Sunday, as the Sixers big man dropped 31 points. But the Knicks were able to lock down just about everyone else, with Tobias Harris and De’Anthony Melton tied for second in scoring with a modest 14 points apiece.
Though the Philly starting five outplayed the Knicks’ starting five on +/- rating, New York’s bench overwhelmed the Sixers’, outscoring them 37-16. Evan Fournier (17 points) and Deuce McBride (14 points) led the way for the Knicks in that department.
It’s also worth noting that the Knicks were without RJ Barrett that day due to an illness. Barrett’s Tuesday return against the Orlando Magic was a bit lacking (15 points on 5-of-16 shooting), but he’s likely got whatever bug he had in his system out by now. Barrett is averaging a career-best 20.1 ppg this season, as well as 5.3 rpg, and 2.8 apg.
Bettors may want to pounce on this number right away, as Embiid is once again listed as “questionable” with a nagging foot injury. He’s liable to miss a game either tonight or tomorrow night against the Brooklyn Nets as a precautionary measure. If he’s announced as out, the Knicks could fall to pick ‘em range in this contest.
New York looks like a great bet catching 5.5 points, and I would even consider sprinkling something on their moneyline as well.

The tricky thing for those setting the lines for this contest is that the Knicks are arguably a better team on the road than they are at home — an exceptionally rare attribute in the NBA. Underdog bettors look to be in a great spot here, as New York could even win this one outright.
The Knicks are 16-11 SU on the road, compared to a 14-15 SU record at home. New York outscores its competition by an average of 1.8 points, a figure that falls only slightly to 1.4 points on the road.
Philly’s home-court advantage looks to be marginal at best, as it’s outscoring foes by 3.5 points overall, and 5.3 points at home. The Sixers are an impressive 18-10 ATS at Wells Fargo Center this year (compared to 12-13 ATS as the visitor), but the Knicks are 18-9 ATS on the road this year (compared to 11-16-2 ATS at MSG).
New York looks to be in a sweet spot as 5.5-point pooches, as it’s lost by an average of only 2.4 points as underdogs this season. The Sixers have been favored by 5-7 points 10 times this year, and own a 3-7 ATS record when that’s the case.
Knicks vs 76ers Over/Under analysis
A total of 223.5 (or 223, depending on where you look) is as low as the Sixers have seen in quite some time, while the Knicks are no strangers to tiny totals with Tom Thibodeau running the show. Still, this handicapper is leaning toward the Under.
Threes will not fall easily on Friday night, as the Knicks are sixth in opponent 3PT%, while the Sixers are second.
New York has gone below the total in three of its last four overall, and in six of its last eight games played on exactly two days of rest. The Knicks got even tougher to play against at the trade deadline, reeling in the defensively-sound Josh Hart from the Portland Trail Blazers, albeit he’s not confirmed to be suiting up tonight.
The Under is an incredible 15-3 in the Sixers’ last 18 games against teams with winning records, and 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams. That includes Sunday’s result, where the teams shot a combined 41.8% from the floor.
