The Westgate LV Superbook, located just off the Las Vegas Strip, added futures odds to win the 2017-18 NBA Championship to their massive betting board on Sunday, May 28, 2017. They were the first Vegas book to offer odds for next season and the move came a few days before Game 1 of the 2016-17 Championship series between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It will come as a surprise to no one that the defending champion Warriors (5/8) and the 2016-17 runner-up Cavaliers (5/2) opened as the top two teams on next year's list. They are followed, not so closely behind, by the San Antonio Spurs at 10/1 and the Boston Celtics at 15/1. The Washington Wizards, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Houston Rockets are all fifth on the list at 30/1.
At the bottom of the odds table at 1,000/1 are the Brooklyn Nets, the Orlando Magic, and the Sacramento Kings. It's interesting to see three teams with such long odds to open the betting as last year's Nets opened at 500/1 and were the lone team in that odds range.
