Gary's scary
The Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls play tonight for the second time in just over a week. The Bulls took that game 111-105 as this time around, the game transitions from the Windy City to The Six with the Raps as 3-point favorites.
That number is a reflection of the impressive reslilience the Raptors are showing at the moment. Toronto has won three games in a row playing basically five dudes. Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Scottie Barnes, and the suddenly white-hot Gary Trent. Jr.
Trent has been getting buckets. The shooting guard has put up 31 or more points in five straight games while shooting a ridiculous 51.7% from 3-point range. And it’s not like he’s only getting up a couple of shots from distance. The guy is jacking up 12 attempts from deep per game over that span. Insanity.
That includes going 6-10 from beyond the arc in that previous meeting against the Bulls and he’ll have a great chance to eclipse his made threes total once again. The Bulls allow the most points in the NBA to opposing guards while ranking 27th in 3-point percentage allowed to opposing guards.
Trent will cool off at some point. But for now, in this matchup, we’ll ride his hot streak.
Pick: Gary Trent Jr. Over 3.5 made threes (-125 at DraftKings)
Ayo Kato
Now, I usually try and pick props from three different games for this article, but I just can’t say no to the value of another bet in this Bulls-Raptors game.
Sportbooks have yet to adjust to the fact that Ayo Dosunmu has become a starter for Chicago due to all the injuries the team is dealing with. Specifically, we’re talking about Dosumu’s assist numbers.
Dosunmu has started the last 10 games for the Bulls, averaging 6.5 assists per game, yet books continue to set his assists total in the 3.5-4.5 range. Tonight, the number against the Raptors is 4.5.
While he only had four in the last meeting against the Raps, he’s gone Over 4.5 seven times in this 10-game stretch and has put up at least nine in each of his last two games. And Toronto ranks just a middle-of-the-pack 16th in opponent assists per game.
You’ve got to think the Raptors' legs are getting a little tired after all the minutes they’ve played lately. That should make making that extra pass just a little easier for Dosunmu.
Pick: Ayo Dosunmu Over 4.5 assists (-105 at DraftKings)
Doubling down
When the Golden State Warriors visit the Sacramento Kings, we get a combination of my favorite things going in the NBA player prop world at the moment. Kevon Looney rebounds and the Kings’ problems in the paint.
Looney continues to be a beast on the boards while teammate Draymond Green continues to be sidelined with a calf injury. Looney averages 7.6 rebounds per game this season but in the 15 games Green has missed, that number has bumped up to 10.9.
And while we would usually just stick to Looney’s rebounding prop, particularly against a Kings team that ranks 25th in rebounding percentage, the matchup with Sacramento is too tempting to pass up on a different bet tonight.
The Kings stink at defending the interior. They rank 29th in defensive rating and allow the most paint points in the NBA, by a fairly large margin. Plus, we saw Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets work them over just last night.
While Looney has only recorded double-digit points four times over that 15-game stretch, if there is a game where he can get there and record a double-double, it’s this one. And just look at the value.
Pick: Kevon Looney double-double - Yes (+340 at DraftKings)
