Fear the 'fro

The Jarrett Allen NBA All-Star snub revenge tour continues tonight when the Cleveland Cavaliers host the San Antonio Spurs.

Allen has put up All-Star-worthy numbers for the Cavs this season, averaging 16.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, but wasn’t selected for the annual showcase of the NBA’s best talent (in Cleveland this year, no less).

However, it looks like Allen wants to prove the NBA made a mistake. Since not being selected, Allen went for 29 points and 22 boards against the Hornets and followed that up with 15 points-17 rebound performance against the Pacers. Next up on Allen’s hit list are the Spurs.

The Spurs have been inconsistent on the defensive end of the floor this season, ranking 18th in defensive rating and they have really struggled in the interior. San Antonio allows the third-most points in the paint per game this season.

That should mean another nice game for Allen who has a point total of 14.5, a number he has eclipsed four times in his last five games. Cleveland knows this guy is an All-Star, but Allen is looking forward to proving it once again. Take the Over on his points here.

Pick: Jarrett Allen Over 14.5 points (-110 at DraftKings)

Terry tearing it up

The buzz around the Charlotte Hornets is starting to fade, as the team has lost five games in a row and seven of their last nine overall. But they’ll try to end that skid the only way they know how when they host the Chicago Bulls: by shooting their way out of it.

And the player who you can expect to lead the charge is Terry Rozier. While the Hornets are struggling you can’t say the same for Rozier. The Buzz City guard is hitting 38.1% of his 3-point shots over his last seven on 9.0 attempts per game.

Rozier now goes up against a Bulls unit that is also going through a bit of a tough stretch and continues to struggle on the defensive end of the floor. Chicago ranks 21st in defensive rating this season but their issues are really apparent on the perimeter with opposing team guards.

No team in the NBA allows more points per game to opposing guards than the Bulls. They also rank dead last when it comes to opponent 3-point shooting percentage. So, you can bet Rozier isn’t going to slow down in this matchup.

In fact, let’s do just that. Rozier has hit four or more threes four times over his last seven games and has hit at least three six times. And you’re giving me +135 for him to go Over 3.5 made threes against a Bulls team that looks like it’s getting spun around by a matador on the perimeter? Sign me up.

Pick: Terry Rozier Over 3.5 made threes (+135 at DraftKings)

Dort authority

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the shelf for a bit, Lu Dort has taken it upon himself to carry the load offensively for the Oklahoma City Thunder. And he’ll need to put on a big performance tonight, as the Thunder are big underdogs against the visiting Toronto Raptors.

Dort has started to take more shots with SGA sidelined, attempting 16.3 field goals per game over his last six. Over that span, he is averaging 23.3 points, including 8.7 attempts are from beyond the arc, where Dort is hitting 40.4 % of his threes. He has hit three or more threes five times over his last six games.

Tonight, he faces a solid Raptors defense that plays an aggressive style that attacks opposing players with switches and double teams. But that style can cause them to leave players open on the perimeter at times. As a result, the Raptors rank 20th in the NBA when it comes to opponent 3-point shooting percentage.

With Dort still being the Thunder’s best scoring option at the moment, backing him to hit another handful of threes looks like a safe bet here.

Pick: Lu Dort Over 2.5 made threes (-135 at FanDuel)

It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
