Best NBA Player Props Today for Jan. 29: Building Bridges

Mikal Bridges has started taking the next step and looks like the budding star the Knicks thought they were getting. We like the Over in his points market in addition to a couple of other NBA player props from tonight's slate.

It’s wall-to-wall hoops action tonight with teams jockeying for position and weighing options ahead of next week’s trade deadline.

The NBA player props market offers up countless tasty wagers for the 11-game slate, and I’ve selected my top three NBA picks, including one of the sparks for the New York Knicks’ current hot streak.

NBA player props for January 29

Mikal Bridges Over 18.5 points (-105 at bet365)

There’s a lot to like about the New York Knicks’ form over the last week, and they’re suddenly on the Boston Celtics’ heels for the No.2 seed in the East. That upswing in form has coincided with a pair of monster games from Mikal Bridges, who’s looking more like the player New York used a truckload of picks to acquire in the offseason.

Bridges dropped 28 points on the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday on 12-for-19 shooting after a 27-point night against the Sacramento Kings on the weekend, and I’m taking the Over on a generous 18.5-point line here.

Those two performances aren’t total outliers, either. Bridges has scored 23 points or more eight times in January, and he’s shooting almost 50% from the field this season. He’s also taken 15 or more shots in five of his last six games.

Now he gets a matchup against the Denver Nuggets, who’ve given up 129 points and 133 points in their prior two contests. With all the attention on Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns in the pick-and-roll, I see Bridges cashing in on open looks tonight.

Jordan Poole Under 24.5 points (-120 at bet365)

No matter what Jordan Poole may think about his All-Star credentials, the numbers tell a different story, especially after the last few weeks. Poole has fallen short of the 20-point mark in four of his last five contests, so it’s a little surprising to see this O/U line as high as 24.5.

I’m taking the Under tonight against an improved Toronto Raptors team that’s tightened up defensively while winning six of its last seven games. The Raptors have held three of their last four opponents to 104 points or fewer.

With Davion Mitchell and Jamal Shead swarming Poole on the perimeter, I’m predicting another tough night for the Washington Wizards guard, who’s just 19-for-52 from 3-point range across his past five contests. He’s shooting just 40% from the field this month, and he didn’t attempt a free throw in either of his last two games.

The Wizards have lost 14 in a row — and a lot of those defeats haven’t been close. If tonight follows a similar script, Poole’s minutes could take a hit, and that’s just another reason to take the Under here.

Malik Monk Over 6.5 assists (+105 at bet365)

With the De’Aaron Fox trade rumors heating up, there’s a strong sense that his time with the Sacramento Kings is coming to an end. Whatever happens there, the Kings aren’t short on playmaking, particularly with Malik Monk emerging as an ultra-reliable setup man in the starting five this year.

Monk is averaging 7.9 assists per game this month, and he’s ended with seven or more in seven of his last eight games, with nine assists in five. Given all that, an assists prop line of 6.5 at very slight plus-money odds jumps off the screen, especially as Monk had five dimes in the third quarter alone in Brooklyn on Monday.

I see him shining as a distributor again here against a Philadelphia 76ers team still missing Joel Embiid. Put simply, this Sacramento offense delivers points. The Kings have scored 120 or more in five of their last six, and they rank sixth in the NBA with 116.9 PPG this season. Monk is a big reason for that.

A Fox trade could unleash a whole new level for Monk, but I’m still loading up on this Over in the meantime.
