The Oklahoma City Thunder will try to bounce back from their second loss in three games when they visit the depleted Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday evening.

Oklahoma City (42-19) is still in the mix for the top seed in the Western Conference but sits a half-game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves after those recent losses. Portland (17-43) has dropped eight of 10, and will likely finish with the second-worst record in the conference ahead of only the San Antonio Spurs.

The Thunder are sizable road favorites in the NBA odds tonight, but the line makes a lot of sense when you consider how banged-up Portland is coming into this game. We’ll break the matchup down in our free NBA picks and predictions for Thunder vs. Trail Blazers on Wednesday, March 6.

Thunder vs Trail Blazers odds

Thunder vs Trail Blazers predictions

On the best of days, the Portland Trail Blazers aren’t a match for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder have won two of the first three meetings between these teams this year, and the two victories have come by 43 and 62 points, respectively. It wouldn’t be impossible for the Trail Blazers to compete at home — they do have that one win, and have shown resilience against some of the top teams in the league this year — but it would be an uphill battle.

Unfortunately for the Blazers, they won’t even have all of their weapons heading into tonight’s game. Scoot Henderson (12.9 points per game) has been ruled out for Wednesday with a foot injury. Deandre Ayton (14.3 ppg) is doubtful due to a wrist issue. Jerami Grant (21.1 ppg), Toumani Camara (7.2 ppg), and Matisse Thybulle (5.3 ppg) are all questionable, while Malcolm Brogdon (15.7 ppg) has already been out for a month.

Starting guard Anfernee Simons (22.7 ppg) will be suiting up for Portland tonight. The question is exactly who else will be able to take the court with him. And against a team with as much talent as the Thunder, that’s a recipe for disaster.

Oklahoma City will bring a largely healthy roster into tonight’s game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31.1 ppg) leads one of the best offensive units in the NBA, one that averages 120.9 points per night. Young stars Jalen Williams (19.1 ppg) and Chet Holmgren (17.1 ppg) are still seemingly improving every day, and the Thunder can play some defense as well. Oklahoma City is outscoring opponents by an average of 7.6 points, the second-best point differential in the NBA.

None of that automatically means that the Thunder will win by double digits. Portland plays slightly better at home, and 13.5 points is a lot to give anyone in this league. On an average night with full rosters, the Trail Blazers might be just squeaking into single-digit underdog territory at home.

But it’s hard to see how Portland can even make this a competitive game tonight. With so many injuries, who will help Simons match the scoring output of Gilgeous-Alexander? Who will guard Holmgren if Ayton isn’t healthy? How can the Blazers both manage the number of elite scoring options the Thunder can bring to the table and find reliable options against a tough Oklahoma City defense?

Maybe Portland can find answers to one of these questions, but it’s hard to imagine they can solve all of them. This shouldn’t be a competitive game, and it could be yet another ugly matchup for the Trail Blazers. I’m taking the Thunder and giving as many points as the books want to take.

My best bet: Thunder -13.5 (-110 at FanDuel30% live boost available

Thunder vs Trail Blazers same-game parlay

Thunder -13.5

Over 223.5

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 30+ points

The Thunder are likely to score a boatload of points tonight, and that forms a good basis for a same-game parlay on this contest. I’ll take Oklahoma City to cover and pair that with the Over, which has been set at a modest number tonight. The Over is 6-3-1 in the Thunder’s last 10 games, and they’ve played above tonight’s total in eight of those contests.

If there’s scoring to be done, we can be sure that Gilgeous-Alexander will get his share. While he only managed 20 against the Lakers on Monday, SGA had previously scored 30+ points in eight straight games. I’m taking him to get back to that number tonight and bring home our SGP.

Thunder vs Trail Blazers spread and Over/Under analysis

The Thunder opened tonight’s game as a 13-point favorite. The consensus spread has moved to Oklahoma City -13.5, with nearly all books offering -110 on both sides.

Oklahoma City has outperformed expectations this year and has put up a 38-23 record against the spread. Portland has been close to even for bettors, going 28-32 ATS on the season.

It’s always scary to give this many points in an NBA game, but Oklahoma City is healthy while Portland is not. Even more importantly, the Thunder are good and the Blazers are not, even when they have a full complement of starters. I’m taking the Thunder and laying the points tonight.

Tonight’s total started at 224 points. There hasn’t been much movement, with various sites now offering anywhere from 223.5 to 224.5 as their main line Over/Under for the game.

Oklahoma City has been playing to the Over this season, as it has gone 35-25-1. The Under holds a slight 32-28 edge on the year in Portland’s games.

The Thunder should score a ton of points tonight, with the only question being how well the Trail Blazers can keep up. That’s truly an open question, which makes the total a tricky play. However, my inclination is to ride the Oklahoma City offense if you’re going to play this market. I’m leaning towards the Over tonight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
