The Miami Heat will look to make it two straight wins when they host the Portland Trail Blazers at the Kaseya Center tonight

Portland has had trouble even staying in games against quality opponents in recent weeks, and that’s why I’m taking Miami to cover in my Trail Blazers vs. Heat predictions below.

Read on to see the full analysis of this matchup in my free NBA picks for Tuesday, January 21.

Trail Blazers vs Heat prediction

My best bet
Heat -11 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
Coming into tonight’s game, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Miami Heat are celebrating Sunday's wins, which ended their respective losing streaks.

While their recent results may look similar, there is a huge gulf between these two squads, which was evident in their last meeting on January 11.

In that matchup, the Heat jumped out to an 18-point lead at halftime and were never in real trouble in the second half, ultimately winning 119-98. Tyler Herro led the way with 32 points, but six different Miami players were able to score in double figures.

The game was just another in a string of blowout losses the Blazers have suffered at home this month. The Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Houston Rockets have all scored easy double-digit wins over Portland in the past week, and things aren’t likely to get any easier for them.

As one of the younger teams in the NBA, the Blazers have made strides this year, but they’re still far from ready to compete with playoff-level competition on a regular basis. Portland ranks 27th in the league in offensive rating (108.6), and nearly as poorly on the other end, sitting 26th in defensive rating (117.1).

The team is still learning to gel on the defensive end, and while players like Shaedon Sharpe (18.1 ppg) and Anfernee Simons (18.0 ppg) look like they could become capable scorers, there’s no singular threat opposing defenses have to be all that worried about.

If anything, Portland might find itself facing an even tougher task in the rematch with Miami. The Heat are starting to see great things from rookie center Kel’el Ware, who scored a career-high 25 points against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Ware not only has the ability to contribute offensively but can free up Bam Adebayo to roam defensively, leading to some horrific matchups for opposing coaches to solve.

Miami also has Jimmy Butler back in the lineup, and whether the rest of the team wants him on the court or not, it only widens the talent gap between these two teams.

It’s hard to see Portland staying anywhere close in this one tonight, which is why I’m taking the Heat to cover the spread.

Trail Blazers vs Heat same-game parlay

Heat -10.5

Under 221.5

Tyler Herro 20+ points

The Heat should dominate tonight’s game against a Portland team struggling to compete on both ends of the court.

These teams combined for just 217 points in their first meeting. The Blazers haven’t been scoring many points lately, while the Heat's defense has looked particularly imposing against weaker opponents.

Herro is averaging 24.0 ppg on the year, and has hit the 20-point mark in five of his last six games, making him a relatively safe bet to get to that mark while adding value to my parlay.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
