Many years ago, one of my close friends with whom I attended school at The University of Texas called me up well past midnight, and he was definitely a few beers deep. And what was the urgent message that he just had to relay to me so early in the morning? He proudly told me that he drove about 40 minutes out of his way to cross the Texas state line into Oklahoma so he could “relieve” himself on Sooner soil.

Against the spread (ATS) pick
The Longhorns come stumbling into this game with Tom Herman’s best team yet, but not the numbers to show for it. The Horns needed a miracle—and got one—to beat Texas Tech two weeks ago, but Texas dropped its first game of the season 33-31 to TCU last Saturday. The Horns rely on do-everything senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who threw for four touchdowns last week, but only 236 yards. They were in line for a win against the Horned Frogs before running back Keaontay Ingram fumbled at the TCU one-yard line with just over two minutes to play.
Oklahoma is nowhere to be seen in the Top 25 poll for the first time since 2016 after dropping back-to-back games against Kansas State and Iowa State. Freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns in OU’s 37-31 loss to the Cyclones, but was also picked off on the team’s final drive of the game. When Rattler does go to the air, Austin Stogner is often his target. The sophomore tight end caught five passes for 74 yards in Ames.
It’s a shame this game isn’t going to be the Top-10 showdown it could have been, but it should be hyper-competitive regardless. Herman has earned a nickname from Texas fans over the past couple of years: “Turtle Tom.” When the Horns get a lead, Herman abandons his initial game plan and goes conservative. That’s not a smart idea against an OU team that can still score quickly.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma -1.5 (-110)
Over/Under pick
The Horns and Sooners will be looking for a win in Dallas—and some defense as well. Texas allowed 457 yards of offense to TCU, and Oklahoma was lit up for 414 yards of offense by Iowa State. However, the Under is 6-1 in Sooners’ last 7 neutral site games as a favorite, and the total is a touch too high for my taste.
PREDICTION: Under 72.5 (-110)
Texas vs Oklahoma betting card
