Against the spread (ATS) pick
The Bears will likely turn their offense over to Fields, who was selected 11th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, at some point early during the upcoming season and he'll get his first taste of starting in this one. The Ohio State product has looked sharp so far in the preseason but his team did not last week when Fields was running for his life against Buffalo.
The Bears were crushed 41-15 in that contest with their former QB Mitchell Trubisky shredding them for 221 yards through the air. Meanwhile, the Titans have looked terrific during the preseason, defeating the Falcons 23-3 in their opening game before destroying the Buccaneers 34-3 on the road last week.
A big reason why Tennessee is likely the underdog in this one is that multiple members of the team are out due to positive COVID tests, including head coach Mike Vrabel and starting QB Ryan Tannehill. That said, Tannehill hasn't played at all this preseason and the Titans have rolled with Matt Barkley and Logan Woodside under center.
The Titans have also played lights out on defense where multiple talented players fighting for roster spots have produced, including Elijah Molden, Wyatt Ray, and Rashad Weaver. Tennessee is allowing just 172.5 yards and 3.0 points per game during the preseason. With how strong the Titans have looked on both sides of the ball and their terrific depth across the board, I'm not fading them as home underdogs.
PREDICTION: Tennessee +3 (-110)
Over/Under pick
We mentioned how tough the Titans defense has been but Fields was dynamite in his preseason debut against Miami and, despite facing constant pressure, he made plays versus Buffalo. While he likely won't have the Bears' starting WR corps in this contest, he should have their first-string offensive line since that revamped unit needs to find chemistry before the season starts.
When Fields does come out of the game, Bears coach Matt Nagy has the benefit of throwing out a third-string QB in Nick Foles who has plenty of starting experience in the NFL.
The Titans' preseason passers, Barkley and Woodside, might not be as well-known but they've been very productive, combining to complete 72.3 percent of their passes for 317 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
At running back, undrafted Mekhi Sargent will look to secure a roster spot and even pressure the injured Darrynton Evans as Derrick Henry's backup. Sargent rumbled for 78 yards on 16 carries last Saturday after picking up 58 yards on 16 rush attempts in his preseason debut.
With the Bears surrendering 347 yards and 41 points to the Bills last week, the Titans could possibly hit the Over by themselves.
PREDICTION: Over 36 (-110)
