The Washington Commanders and the New York Giants will meet for the second time this season in Week 9 NFL action.
It was a memorable matchup when the NFC East rivals collided in Week 2, as the Commanders won 21-18 on a walk-off field goal, one of seven FGs made by kicker Austin Seibert.
I'm not sure the Giants will be able to reverse the result at home this time around, but I'm confident it will be another low-scoring game, so the Under will anchor our Commanders vs. Giants predictions and NFL picks.
Commanders vs Giants SGP for Week 9
- Under 44.5
- Jayden Daniels Under 281.5 passing + rushing yards
- Malik Nabers anytime TD
With the New York Giants ranking dead-last in red-zone offense (36.4% TD rate) and the Washington Commanders only 24th (51.4%), I think the 44.5-point total is one of the more inflated lines in the Week 9 odds.
The Daniel Jones contract looks more onerous by the game for the Giants, as they rank 31st in points per game (14.6) and 29th in yards per play (4.7). Jones had one of his lowest passing outputs of the season vs. the Commanders in Week 2 (6.4 yards per attempt on 28 throws), even as Malik Nabers went off for 127 yards and a touchdown on 10 receptions (18 targets).
Tailback Devin Singletary had his best effort of 2024 in Week 2, rushing for 95 yards on 16 totes, but he's lost touches to Tyrone Tracy Jr. of late. However, the rookie out of Purdue is questionable, meaning Singletary could once again be relied on to grind things out on the ground.
I also expect the Commanders' running backs to be busy. Brian Robinson Jr. has been limited in practice, but he should be ready to rumble. Even if he doesn't, Austin Ekeler has been effective from the backfield (6.2 ypc), as has third-stringer Jeremy McNichols (6.3 ypc).
Jayden Daniels is nursing a rib injury, and while he rushed eight times vs. the Bears last week, that was a product of their fearsome pass rush. While the Giants have more sacks than any team in the league, they're either average or below average in pressure rate, hurry rate, and QB knockdowns.
The close, low-scoring nature of this game could help Washington give Daniels a breather in terms of dropbacks, and that should have him going Under his passing + rushing combo in the Week 9 player props.
Still, somebody has to score, so my Commanders vs. Giants predictions will wrap up with a reverse-correlation TD prop. Nabers was targeted like there was no tomorrow in the earlier meeting between these clubs, so I like him to find the end zone on Sunday.
