It looked like the Philadelphia Eagles’ path to the postseason was paved in gold for the home stretch of the season. But with a big speed bump in the form of a loss to the New York Giants last Sunday, the Eagles need a course correction quickly.

The schedule sends Philadelphia limping back to the Meadowlands for the second straight week, this time taking on the New York Jets, who are fresh from just their third win of the season after knocking off Houston last weekend.

Check out our free NFL picks and predictions for Eagles at Jets on December 5.

(Editor's Note: These picks were made prior to Saturday night's reports of Jalen Hurts sitting out with an ankle injury on Sunday.)

Philadelphia opened as a touchdown favorite on the road but that spread has since dipped below the key number to Eagles -6.5 with a number of starters popping up on the injury reports. The total hit the board at 46 points and slimmed as low as 44.5.

Eagles vs Jets picks and predictions

Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.

If you’re betting on this game, get ready to be uncomfortable. The Eagles could be the most schizophrenic team in the NFL, splitting ATS wins and losses most weeks, while the Jets… well the Jets just suck. But do they suck more than a touchdown?

The injury concerns with the Eagles have slimmed this spread under the key number but this is still a tough team to gameplan for on both sides of the ball. Philadelphia’s rushing game runs deep, with Jalen Hurts (expected to play) at the wheel of an RPO attack that has plenty of capable runners. Miles Sanders was back at practice Thursday and Boston Scott is overcoming a non-COVID illness that hopefully clears before the weekend.

New York sits 30th in Run Defense DVOA and that’s when it has most of its starters up front. However, the Week 13 injury report is packed with defensive pillars in the front seven, including a possible soft spot on the left side of the line with first-teamers John Franklin-Myers and Sheldon Rankins up in the air for Sunday. And guess where Philadelphia has the most success moving the football? Don’t make me get Beyonce in here!

The last two times Gang Green took on an opponent with an RPO attack as relentless as the Eagles, it allowed 45 points apiece in matchups with the Bills and Colts.

Prediction: Philadelphia -6.5 (-115)

This total was featured as my bet later Over/Under for Week 13, watching this number tick down from an opener as high as 46.5 points. With the injury report packed for Philadelphia and Jets QB Zach Wilson nursing a sore knee, this total has slimmed as low as 44.5.

The Eagles offense is getting discounted not just for those ailments but also for a 13-7 loss to New York last Sunday. However, Philadelphia outgained the Giants 332-264 and if not for four turnovers, likely would have pumped out more points.

The green New York team is not nearly as stout on defense as the blue New York team, with the Jets ranked dead last in EPA per play allowed (+0.168). Philadelphia will test New York’s depth with an up-tempo offense that runs a play every 27.04 seconds – eighth fastest in the NFL.

Both teams played Under in Week 12 but have been solid moneymakers for Over backers in recent weeks, with Philadelphia going 4-2 O/U in its last six and the Jets posting a 6-2 O/U count in their previous eight outings.

Prediction: Over 44.5 (-110)
