The 2024 NFL schedule barely broke into October before the first head coach was handed his walking papers.

The New York Jets said “so long” to Robert Saleh on Tuesday morning following the team’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London this past weekend. Saleh, who was +2,500 in the first head coach fired odds heading into Week 5, will be replaced by defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich for the time being.

This move leaves Gang Green looking for a new HC and has sportsbooks prompting opening NFL odds on just who that will be. Here’s a look at the favorites to be the next head coach of the J-E-T-S.

New York Jets next head coach odds

Team Odds
Bill Belichick +200
Mike Vrabel +500
Ben Johnson +600
Bobby Slowik +600
Todd Monken +1,000
Joe Brady +1,100

Odds as of October 8, 2024.

New York Jets next head coach favorites

Bill Belichick (+200)

It took a while, but the New York Jets could finally get their man.

Bill Belichick was infamously the head coach in New York for about a day before suddenly resigning and taking the open job in New England back in 2000. As it turns out, not a bad decision.

Now with the 72-year-old just living his best life, talking shit with the Manning Bros and keeping up with his 24-year-old girlfriend, the door is open for a triumphant return to East Rutherford, where Belichick cut his teeth under Bill Parcels so many moons ago.

But does Bill want to share the spotlight with Aaron Rodgers? At this point, Belichick’s chances of becoming the head coach of the Jets are very much tied to Rodgers’ retirement plans.

Mike Vrabel (+500)

If you can’t get Belichick, go for the next best thing.

Mike Vrabel, who played under “The Hoodie” in New England, was let go as head coach in Tennessee before this season, despite having success with the Titans (54-45 SU). He’s currently a consultant in Cleveland, so you know he’s looking for a change of scenery.

Vrabel is a defensive-minded coach who would inherit one of the best stop units in the land. I know NFL bettors would love to see Vrabel back on the sideline, considering his Titans were one of the best underdog bets during his tenure in Nashville (59%).

Ben Johnson (+600)

Ben Johnson is one of the most sought-after coordinators in the NFL, lifting the Detroit Lions out of the NFC basement during his three seasons as the OC in Motown.

Hiring Johnson would mean giving Rodgers’ bestie and current Jets coordinator Nathaniel Hackett the boot. That could cause friction if the veteran QB sticks around for his third year. However, if you’ve watched the Jets' offense so far this season, you could see Rodgers getting on board with the hire.

Bobby Slowik (+600)

Bobby Slowik is another “hot to trot” offensive coordinator gaining fame for his work with young QB C.J. Stroud in Houston. He’s a tempting hire if Gang Green decides to move on from A-Rod and draft a quarterback in 2025.

If Rodgers does return, Slowik is part of the Shanahan coaching tree, running some similar schemes as Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur, so there would be familiarity with his playbook.

Todd Monken (+1,000)

Todd Monken is the man behind the Ravens’ offense the past two seasons, making Baltimore a dynamic and dangerous high-scoring attack.

New York needs to add some depth to the receivers’ room (could Saleh’s firing lay the groundwork for Davante Adams' arrival in N.Y.?) and would be putting a lot of trust in the aging arm of Rodgers.

Joe Brady (+1,100)

The brain behind the greatest college football offense in history is currently working as the OC in Buffalo.

Joe Brady didn’t get a fair shake in Carolina a couple of years back and had to work his way back up the coaching ranks. With the way Buffalo’s offense has gone bust the past two weeks, his head coach stock is cooling.
