Of course, in the week featuring the first Tuesday-nighter in a decade, a staff member nicknamed "Taco" overtook first place in our season-long NFL Parlay and Teaser Picks competition.
Defending Champ Andrew Caley is back out in the lead, and the rest of the Covers crew are mobilizing for "Operation #TakeDownTaco" in an effort to avoid another season of his oppressive reign.
This week, we're high on the Chiefs (and their total vs. Buffalo), backing the Bears, and putting faith in the Dallas Cowboys post-Dak.
In case you've missed the first few weeks, here's how it works:
Each week, the members of the Covers editorial staff will provide their best parlay and NFL teaser bets of the week. In previous years, these picks were restricted to just totals, spreads and moneylines but this year everything is in play. Player props, derivatives: if you can find a place to bet it, it's fair game.
Let's dive into our Week 6 picks:
Teaser Picks Week 6
Andrew Caley, Senior Editor (@Covers_Caley) ***Defending Champion***
Ha. If there's now a hashtag cheering on my demise, you know the horse to back right? I'm a little surprised the Bears are dogs at all, getting more than a TD is great. The Falcons should play a little better after firing Dan Quinn (at least this week) in a matchup of awful defenses. And Chiefs vs Bills should be a shootout.
PICK: 6-point teaser (Chicago +7.5, Atlanta-Minnesota Over 48, Kansas City-Buffalo Over 51) +160
Season: +4.02 units
Jason Logan, Senior Industry Analyst (@CoversJLo)
I’m going for three in a row after winning my teasers the past two weeks. Moving Dallas to +7.5 at home, going Under 61 points in that same Monday nighter, and going Under 49 for Washington-Giants. It’s an all-NFC East teaser kind of week. How else are you going to make that division exciting?
PICK: 6-point teaser – Dallas +7.5, Arizona-Dallas Under 61, Washington-N.Y. Giants Under 49 +160
Season: +0.2 units
Rob Hansen, Content Coordinator (@Mookie_45)
There once was a quarterback named Cam,
Whose game was patterned after a battering ram.
He felt a little bit sick,
But his ‘rona went away quick.
Take the Pats over the Broncos – that’s no scam.
PICK: 6.5-point teaser (Patriots -3, Bears/Panthers Under 51, Chiefs/Bills Under 64) +140
Season: +2.6 units
Rohit Ponnaiya, Digital Content Producer (@Covers_Ro)
It's October, which means it's once again time to fade the Falcons who finally fired their coach after yet another brutal start. The Bears are flying under the radar as a 4-1 team but Nick Foles and a top-notch defense should be able to keep things within a TD against the Panthers. And the Ravens should dismantle an underachieving Eagles squad.
PICK: 3 team, six-point teaser (Minnesota +2, Baltimore -1.5, Chicago +7.5) +160
Season: +2.8 units
Jameson Mossman, Social Media Coordinator (@Covers_JaMo)
This is not going as planned so far (insert barfing emoji).
Green Bay keeps rolling vs Tampa this week especially with the return of a hopefully happy Davante Adams. Sure Dallas was able to come back and beat the Giants last week, but Arizona is a much better team, so let’s go Zona here. The Bills looked good to start the year but got kicked in the teeth by Tennessee and now they get Kansas City. Sorry #BillsMafia but this will be another rough week.
PICK: 3 team, 6-point teaser (Green Bay +5, Kansas City +2.5, and Arizona +5.5) +198
Season: -2.4 units
Josh Inglis, NFL Writer (@inglis_josh4)
We finally got on the board last week and now nothing can stop us -- not even #TakeDown Taco. We're sticking with the 6-point teasers and love the stingy Bears defense against a Carolina team that is overvalued, banging the Lions against a Jags team that is seriously injured on both sides of the ball and jumping on the Dolphins because when was the last time they were nine-point favorites.
PICK: 3 team, six-point teaser (Detroit +3, Chicago +7.5, and Miami -3.5) +160
Season: -2.4 units
Parlay Picks Week 6
Brandon DuBreuil, Content Manager (@CoversBD)
Two straight weeks with one leg killing the ticket means I’m barely treading above the break-even mark on the season. This week, I’m taking the Pittsburgh moneyline (-118 on Friday morning) and pairing it with a trio of alternative sides that take some ‘dogs through key numbers: Houston +10, Chicago +8.5, and Dallas +8.5. Yup, we’re riding the Red Rifle.
PICK: Pittsburgh ML, Houston +10, Chicago +8.5, Dallas +8.5 (+265)
Season: +0.08 units
AJ Salah, Publishing Editor (@Salas42_)
Literal (fourth and) inches away from binking last week's parlay, which would have spiny-shelled us back into first. Let's put away the Mike Zimmer voodoo doll and chase some losses!
Taking Chicago's D to overwhelm the Panthers (even after the spread shrunk to +1 through the week), fading the Giants (who are somehow favored, even vs. the "Football Team"), and hammering the Jets/Dolphins Under with Wacko Flacco now piloting the NFL's crappiest offense.
PICK: Chicago +1, Washington +2.5, New York-Miami Under 47.0 (+683)
Season: +0.25 units
Patrick Everson, Senior Writer (@Covers_Vegas)
Every week, I further demonstrate why you should avoid parlays! But here we go again: Titans -3.5 vs. Texans. It’s a short turnaround from Tuesday’s blowout of the Bills, but Tennessee is at least at home. Steelers -3.5 vs. Browns. Love that this line is shorter than at the beginning of the week. Wish it was -3 instead, but I’ll take it. Cowboys +1.5 vs. Cardinals. I think Dallas has at least one week of rally-the-troops effort in the wake of Dak Prescott’s injury.
PICK: Tennessee -3.5, Pittsburgh -3.5, Dallas +1.5 (+641)
Season: -1.36 units
Jared Hochman, Publishing Editor (@JLHoch)
I’m so deep in the basement now, it’s starting to look like my own personal man cave. We could play it slow and steady and chip away at this deficit, but where’s the fun in that?
I like Arizona and Baltimore to go Over their full-game totals, Detroit to go Over its first-half total and Miami to beat up on the Jets in the first half.
PICK: Arizona TT O27.5, Baltimore TT O28.5, Detroit 1H TT O13.5, Miami 1H -5 (+994)
Season: -5 units (but they’re hypothetical, so it really doesn’t count…right?)
1st: Andrew Caley: +4.02 units
2nd: Rohit Ponnaiya: +2.8 units
3rd: Rob Hansen: +2.6 units
4th: AJ Salah: +0.25 units
5th: Jason Logan: +0.2 units
6th: Brandon DuBreuil: +0.08 units
7th: Patrick Everson -1.36 units
T-8th: Jameson Mossman: -2.4 units
T-8th: Josh Inglis: -2.4 units
10th: Jared Hochman: -5.0 units
Standings are somewhat irrelevant — if you're not first...you're last.
