Super Bowl odds don't change after 2020 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys made a splash during the 2020 NFL Draft and while it didn't move their odds to win the Super Bowl, bookmakers did adjust the Cowboys' NFC East futures and season win total prices.

You might think the Super Bowl odds would look different after the 2020 NFL Draft, but you'd be wrong. Oddsmakers didn't adjust the Super Bowl LV futures due to the influx of new talent but did make noteworthy changes to some other NFL betting odds.

“Rookies are rookies. They don’t move the scale all that much, as every team is getting a prospective key guy or two,” said Jeff Davis, director of trading for Caesars Entertainment sportsbooks.

The Cincinnati Bengals' odds to win the Super Bowl still sit around +10,000 after drafting LSU quarterback Joe Burrow first overall in last week's NFL Draft - tied with the Washington Redskins for the longest odds to win the Big Game on February 7, 2021. Washington selected Ohio State DE Chase Young No. 2 overall.

“Not too much movement to report, because the guys good enough to make an impact – basically Joe Burrow and Chase Young – were virtual certainties to go Nos. 1 and 2, so they were already priced into the Bengals and Redskins’ odds," said Patrick Eichner, PointsBet USA’s director of communications.

While the odds to win Super Bowl LV remained steady, bookmakers did adjust a handful of NFL futures odds for some select teams.

2020 NFL Season Win Total Changes

The primary market impacted by the NFL Draft at PointsBet USA was NFL regular season win totals, with two teams that drummed up a lot of conversation over the weekend ultimately seeing some movement, as well.

“The two teams most impacted by the NFL Draft were the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers,” said Eichner. “As you know, folks loved what the Cowboys were able to do, while most have questioned the decisions of the Green Bay front office.”

The Cowboys added Oklahoma wideout CeeDee Lamb and Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs, among others. While the Cowboys’ season win total remained at 9.5, the price on the Over shifted from an even-money underdog to a -125 favorite, with Under 9.5 at +105.

Team Win Total Over WinTotal Under
Dallas Cowboys 9.5 (-125) 9.5 (+105)
Green Bay Packers 9 (-105) 9 (-115)

Meanwhile, the Packers drew eye-rolls for drafting Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the first round, rather than surrounding Aaron Rodgers with more talent. Green Bay’s season win total remained at 9, but the Over dropped from -125 to -105, with Under 9 now a slight -115 chalk.

NFL Division Betting Odds

At Caesars and PointsBet USA, there were post-draft adjustments on NFL division odds. Davis had the Cowboys and Eagles as +105 co-favorites in the NFC East pre-draft, but afterward moved Dallas to a -105 favorite and Philadelphia to a +115 second choice.

Team Division Odds (Before Draft) Division Odds (After Draft)
Dallas Cowboys +105 to win NFC East -105 to win NFC East
Green Bay Packers +160 to win NFC North +170 to win NFC North

PointsBet USA did some more tinkering with the Packers and NFC North odds.

“The Packers were the favorite, but we moved Minnesota to the favorite this morning,” Eichner said Monday. “The Vikings are at +160, the Packers at +170. Those odds were flipped (from) Green Bay at +160 and Minnesota at +170."
