Week 7 NFL Predictions to Bet Now, Bet Later: Vikings Offering Early Value

The Detroit Lions exorcised some demons in Dallas but are dealing with a multitude of injuries on defense as they motor into Minnesota for Week 7. That has Jason Logan looking at a generous spread in favor of Sam Darnold & Co.

NFL betting is one third of the way through the 2024 schedule, giving bookies more than enough data to make the NFL Week 7 odds razor sharp.

Don’t fret. Our one advantage over the oddsmakers is that they have to set spreads and totals for every game on the board. We get to pick and choose our NFL picks and predictions each week.

In order to give those bets a shot at cashing in, you need to get the best of the number. That means jumping on NFL odds opening lines and sometimes waiting for the markets to move, in order to buyback the early opinion.

Here are some spreads and totals for Week 7 you’ll want to “bet now” and some you may want to “bet later,” depending on your opinions.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (-1): Bet Now

The Detroit Lions looked damn good stomping a mud hole in the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon. But that one-sided win came at a price.

Top pass rusher Aiden Hutchinson suffered a broken leg and is likely done for the year and veteran corner Carlton Davis could be dealing with concussion protocols after suffering a freak kick to the head — sans helmet. That’s just the most recent injuries to a dinged-up Detroit defense.

The Minnesota Vikings had a bye in Week 6 after improving to 5-0 with a victory over the New York Jets in London last Sunday. That’s given the Vikings two weeks to plan and prep for what will be the biggest game of the season. Minnesota entered Week 6 as the top defense in EPA allowed per play and Defensive DVOA.

If you believe in Minnesota, then snatch the shortest spread you can right now. As of opening Sunday night, that’s Vikings -1, with other shops a touch higher at -1.5.

Seattle Seahawks (+2.5) at Atlanta Falcons: Bet Later

The Atlanta Falcons were the offseason betting darlings, and now that Atlanta is picking up speed, the betting public is becoming enamored with the ATL again. But how much is a win over the Carolina Panthers truly worth?

We’re seeing the opening line of Falcons -2.5 get priced as high as -120 and there are some -3 spreads on the board as of Sunday night.

The Seattle Seahawks get a much-needed mini-bye after struggling with a laundry list of ailments and a compact schedule that had Seattle playing its third game in 11 days this past Thursday. That break should have Mike Macdonald’s defense close to full strength for the first time in a long time in Week 7.

If you’re siding with Seattle, wait and see if this market consensus hits a field goal or even Seahawks +3.5 later in the week.

Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers (Over 47): Bet Now

Some shops actually had this Over/Under at 46.5 on Sunday evening, but as official openers hit the board, 47 points was the consensus line. That number is making a run upwards with early play on the Over.

The Houston Texans put up 41 points in New England thanks to four forced turnovers, but also caved for 21 points against and some big plays from Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye in Week 6. Houston has given up 20 or more points in five of its first six games and now faces a Green Bay Packers attack finding its form.

The Packers put it on the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday, totaling almost 430 yards of offense and scoring 34 points. But while Green Bay only gave up 13 points to Arizona, the Cardinals had over 300 yards on 5.5 yards per play and shot themselves in the foot with three turnovers.

We have two capable scoring attacks and two stop units that may not be as stingy as we once thought. We’re seeing some shops at 47.5 O/U, so snatch the Over on the key number of 47 before it gets higher.

New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars (Under 42.5): Bet Later

This Week 7 matchup feels like a disgrace to the hallowed pitch of Wembley Stadium, especially after watching the Jacksonville Jaguars get roasted by the Chicago Bears in London this morning.

The Jaguars have allowed 140 total points to capable offenses over the past four games. The New England Patriots… are not that. New England looked much better with Maye under center, at least in terms of pushing the ball downfield, but this is still a rookie QB making his first “away” start.

As for Jacksonville’s offense, a week sequestered in the UK won’t fix all the cracks in this playbook. The run game is non-existent, Trevor Lawrence is struggling with the downfield play calls, and the receiving corps has a bad case of the butterfingers.

The look-ahead total for this London game was as short as 40 points but the early action is coming in on the Over and pushing this through 41 and has the total as high as 42.5. See if this hits the key number of 43 O/U and buyback the Under later in the week.
