New year, new Rangers? In our Bruins vs. Rangers predictions, we take a look into what 2025 will look like for a team that has had an all-time collapse. The New York Rangers went from President’s Trophy winners to the basement of the Metropolitan Division.
Tonight, they host a Boston Bruins team that has turned their play around, going 11-6-1 in their last 18 games, which is the sixth most points in the league in that span.

My analysis
Just when you think things can’t get worse for the New York Rangers, something new develops. After losing 14 of their last 18 games, they now have to deal with Igor Shesterkin being on the IR. There hasn’t been a team in the NHL that has struggled more than the Rangers over the past month. They have been outscored by a whomping 69-38 and are only averaging 2.11 goals per game with a power play that’s converting at 13%, it has gotten ugly.
The Boston Bruins on the other hand, have won five out of their last eight games, and while their special teams has struggled in that span, they’re getting good goaltending and are finishing at even strength. Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak have both been producing at a point per game rate, each tallying three goals during this span while Pastrnak has six helpers and Marchand has five. Both players have seven points at even strength in the last eight games.
Jonathan Quick will be the starter in goal for the Rangers tonight and his past few games have not been his best. Quick is 1-4-0 in his last five starts, but has come in for relieve twice since November 23. In those seven appearances, he is skating to a .855 save percentage with a 4.00 goals against average, not ideal.
On the flip side, Jeremy Swayman is 7-2-1 in his last 10 starts with a .889 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average. These aren’t the numbers we’re used to seeing from Swayman, but all that matters is that he’s helping his team win games.
The vibes between both teams could not be more opposite right now, Boston is starting to find their game again and are fighting to get to the top of the Atlantic Division, while the Rangers can’t seem to get out of their own way and continue to make things harder on themselves.
Bruins vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)
David Pastrnak is averaging 4.00 shots on goal per game this season and has had a minimum of five shots on net in his last three straight games. Considering that the Rangers have allowed the second most shots in the NHL over the past 18 games, Pastrnak should get plenty of looks tonight.
Brad Marchand has gone two straight games without a point, but prior to those games he had been on an 11-game point streak. This says that he’s due to get back on the scoresheet, especially against a team that has been struggling defensively as much as the Rangers.
