The Montreal Canadiens will look to snap a two-game slide when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Bell Centre on Tuesday, January 28.
Montreal continues to push for a postseason position with the stretch drive ahead, and a win over Winnipeg would certainly be welcomed.
My top Jets vs. Canadiens predictions and NHL picks for tonight’s tilt are headlined by Montreal winger Cole Caufield.

My Canadiens pick

My Canadiens analysis
Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield has shown off an uptick in shots and attempts out of the holiday break, and it’s resulted in him recording 3+ shots in 11 of 15 games.
His 12.89 shots and 19.55 attempts per 60 minutes during the 15-game stretch are notably higher than his respective 9.28 and 17.57 marks to start the year, and Caufield is now hanging in the 97th percentile of forwards in shots on goal.
Caufield has also settled in again with long-time linemates Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky, and the trio has driven 5-on-5 possession with a solid 51.9 Corsi For percentage and 52.6% shot share this season.
I also think we’re landing a fair number in this market because the Winnipeg Jets are widely viewed as an excellent defensive team and have surrendered the second-fewest goals per game (2.43). They haven't been an elite shot suppressor on the highway, though, and the home-road splits work in Caufield’s favor tonight.
The Jets have allowed 29.5 shots per road game with a 48.2 CF% at 5-on-5 on the road compared to 26.8 and 50.9% marks on home ice. It’s also step one in explaining Winnipeg rocking a dominant 20-5-3 record at Canada Life Centre and 14-9 on the highway.
Canadiens vs Jets same-game parlay (SGP)
In addition to the Jets allowing more shots and having weaker 5-on-5 possession numbers on the highway, their offensive numbers also drop slightly from 3.71 goals per game to 3.3 per game and 2.48 expected goals per 60 at 5-on-5 to 2.41 per 60.
It’s not a huge dip, but I’m also anticipating improved attention to defensive detail from Montreal tonight. The Habs have allowed 21 goals across their past five games, and No. 1 Sam Montembeault has also stopped 74 of 80 shots across his past two starts for a sterling .925 SV%.
Turning to the final leg of this same-game parlay, Winnipeg winger Nikolaj Ehlers paces the Jets with 9.7 shots and 18.94 attempts per 60 minutes, and he has a splash of statistical correction ahead in the shots column.
Ehlers converted 54.1% of his attempts into shots through his first 28 games of the season, but he’s only converted 45.9% across his past 14. He should have opportunities tonight because the Canadiens allow the sixth-most shots per game, including the second-most to opposing wingers.
