The Montreal Canadiens are looking to sweep the Buffalo Sabres in their home-and-home set tonight at the Bell Centre.

Montreal took home a 4-2 road win on Saturday, and my top Sabres vs. Canadiens predictions and NHL picks call for the Habs to double-down tonight with a low-scoring victory.

Canadiens vs Sabres prediction

My Canadiens pick
Under 6.5 (-120 at BET99)

My Canadiens analysis
The Montreal Canadiens are rolling along a four-game winning streak, and the Buffalo Sabres have won six of their past nine. Both clubs have been lighting the lamp particularly well during the runs with respective 12.4 and 15.4 team shooting percentages at 5-on-5.

Simply put, even the best teams in the league can’t maintain shooting efficiency that high, and the Habs and Sabres are both all but guaranteed to be watching the playoffs instead of playing in them. The other huge factor in this matchup is the potential for both goalies to lend a hand in this game going Under the number.

Make no mistake, the year-long numbers for Habs No. 1 Sam Montembeault and Sabres likely starter Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen aren’t pretty, but they’ve each flashed the potential to steal games.

Montembeault has won three of his past four with a .929 save percentage and 1.63 GAA with 1.92 goals saved above average, and I’m not ready to write Luukkonen off after showing off to finish last season.

The Finnish netminder capped off the 2023-24 campaign with a .919 SV% and 2.31 GAA across his final 36 appearances, after all.

Canadiens vs Sabres same-game parlay (SGP)

Canadiens moneyline

Under 6.5

Cole Caufield Over 2.5 shots

The highlighted strong play from Montembeaut paired with the Habs topping the Sabres 4-2 on the road Saturday are strong cases for the Montreal moneyline, in addition to Buffalo’s noted unsustainably 5-on-5 team shooting percentage during its own 6-3 stretch.

Buffalo has also traveled poorly with a 9-16-2 road record, and the Sabres have only cashed the moneyline in 12 of their past 37 road games (-11.35 units / -28% ROI).

Turning to the final leg of this SGP, Montreal winger Cole Caufield has been limited to just five shots across his past four games despite registering 15 attempts (33.3% shooting efficiency). He recorded 3+ shots in 16 of 23 games before the mini-skid, converting 82 of his 134 attempts into shots (61.2% efficiency).
