The Montreal Canadiens have won three consecutive games and inched their way (somewhat) back into the playoff picture, now sitting just five points out.

The offense has played a pivotal role in their recent success, and that should continue Saturday, with my Canadiens vs. Sabres predictions backing the two sides to score plenty of goals.

Let’s take a closer look at my NHL picks for March 1.

Canadiens vs Sabres prediction

My Canadiens pick
Over 6 (-135 at BET99)

My Canadiens analysis
The Montreal Canadiens are heating up offensively. They have scored 13 goals over their three-game winning streak and have found the back of the net at least three times in six of their past seven games. Win or lose, they’re scoring their share of goals.

That should continue Saturday night against the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres have allowed 3.39 goals per game this season, which slots them 29th in the NHL. They have struggled mightily to keep the puck out all year long.

Scoring goals hasn’t been nearly as challenging for them. The Sabres are averaging 3.19 goals per game (11th most) and have taken things up a notch further of late, scoring a whopping 35 goals over their last eight.

Seven of their past 10 games have gone Over the number. That’s nothing new for the Sabres, who own a 32-18-7 O/U record on the season.

The goals should continue to flow in this game. Jakub Dobes is projected to start for the Canadiens.

After a remarkably strong start to his NHL career, his play has come back down to earth. He has allowed at least three goals in four straight games and hasn’t won since January 19. Dobes is unlikely to slow a Sabres offense that is firing on all cylinders.

Conversely, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen owns a .894 save percentage this year and hasn’t limited an opposing team to fewer than two goals in nearly two months.

With two in-form offenses taking on opponents struggling to keep the puck out, there’s real potential for fireworks.

Canadiens vs Sabres same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 6

Cole Caufield Over 0.5 points

J.J. Peterka Over 0.5 points

Cole Caufield continues to light up the scoresheet. He has produced a point in 66% of his games and enters play riding a three-game point streak.

Caufield has enjoyed plenty of success against his Atlantic Division foe, putting forth multi-point efforts in both games against Buffalo this season.

J.J. Peterka has enjoyed a big breakout campaign. With 40 points through 55 games, he is on pace to soar past his previous career high of 50.

He is playing some of his best hockey of the season alongside Tage Thompson and Jiri Kulich, having produced 10 points over his last 10 games.

It’s also worth noting he’s done his best work on home soil, where he has found the scoresheet in 64% of his games.

If this game goes over the number, there’s a good chance Peterka is one of the reasons why.
