It’s been a challenging season for the Vancouver Canucks due to many different factors, but this team has found a way to stay in the fight all year long. They’re currently five points back of a playoff spot as they look to catch the St. Louis Blues, and they’re looking to ride the momentum of a big overtime win against New Jersey into tonight on Long Island.
The Canucks are 6-5-1 in their last 12 games, but they were able to get Thatcher Demko back from injury in their most recent contest. Demko has been out for the majority of the season and has only been available for 18 starts, but his performance in overtime against the Devils really helped to boost his team to victory.
Offensively, the Canucks have been finding ways to score goals thanks to Elias Pettersson turning things around a bit and Pius Suter stepping up with six goals in his last 12 games. As a group, the Canucks are at 3.08 goals per game since the beginning of March, but their power play could still use a little bit of improvement as it’s only clicked at a 18.8% rate over their last 12 games.
That said, their penalty kill has been excellent, only allowing one power play goal against in their last six games, and they’re at a 87.5% since the beginning of the month.
The Canucks have a good chance to into UBS Arena and steal two points tonight. Vancouver has actually been better on the road than they are at home, as they skate to an 18-13-5 record as the visitors while the New York Islanders are a modest 17-13-5 at home.

The Islanders are allowing 3.06 goals against on home ice this season and are only scoring 2.86 goals per contest on the offensive side, while the Canucks allow 2.97 goals against as the away team. Ilya Sorokin has had a good month of March in between the pipes, but he doesn’t get a ton of help from the guys in front of him, most of the time he is the one bailing them out. The Canucks moneyline is the play.
