Canucks vs Rangers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

A tale of two peripherals. The Rangers have largely outperformed underlying metrics while the Canucks should be heading toward brighter days. Tonight will be that day with Vancouver bouncing back to win after a tough loss last time out.

The Vancouver Canucks host the New York Rangers tonight at Rogers Arena in a battle between two of the NHL’s Top-11 teams by way of points percentage.

My Canucks vs. Rangers predictions see the home side getting a bounce-back win against a team that has been getting better results than deserved.

Let’s break things down further with my Tuesday, November 19 NHL picks ahead of the puck drop at 10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet Pacific.

My Canucks analysis

The New York Rangers are 11-4-1 but they have not played as well as their record would suggest — at least on the defensive side of things.

The Rangers have conceded 3.40 expected goals per game, which is the fifth-highest mark in the NHL. They are keeping company with Anaheim, Montreal, San Jose, and Chicago at the bottom of the league, which is never a good sign.

New York grades out even worse when it comes to limiting high-danger opportunities, with only the Ducks and Sharks conceding more.

They have largely masked those issues due to a .925 team save percentage in a season league average sits at .894.

Even for a tandem featuring Igor Shesterkin, those numbers appear unsustainably high. The Vancouver Canucks are certainly well-equipped to bring opposing netminders back to reality.

They finished fourth in the NHL with a 21.22% conversion rate on high-danger chances last season and have picked up exactly where they left off, netting 21.31% of their high-danger opportunities in 2024-25.

Plenty of teams are susceptible to letting teams off the hook when they’re loose defensively, but the Canucks generally aren't one of them.

Vancouver has played better than their recent record indicates, as well. They’ve controlled better than 55% of the expected goals share at 5v5 over the last 10 games, one of the best marks in the NHL.

New York ranks far below them at 23rd over the same timeframe.

Coming off a disappointing loss to the Predators, I expect the Canucks to rebound and take care of business on home ice.

Canucks vs Rangers Odds analysis

The Canucks have won five of the last six games in which they closed as moneyline favorites. That’s the direction we’re heading as the Canucks sit -109 favorites after opening at +100.

The Canucks have won six of the last nine head-to-head matchups with the Rangers.

Five straight games between the Canucks and Rangers have gone Over the total. An average of eight goals have been scored in those meetings.
