Flames vs Penguins Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Our NHL expert predictions expect tonight's matchup to be a low-scoring affair thanks to the recent exploits of Flames netminder Dan Vladar.

After a red-hot start to the season, the Calgary Flames have found themselves on a rare three-game losing streak, while the Pittsburgh Penguins hope to win their third game in a row.

While the records state that Calgary might be the better team, both have been struggling to score goals at a consistent rate.

Find out why my Penguins vs. Flames predictions and NHL picks favor the total on Saturday, November 30.

My Flames analysis
The Calgary Flames have been a very interesting story in the early parts of the 2024-25 campaign. They currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division with a record of 12-8-4, but this group is due to regress. Calgary has been winning games due to outstanding goaltending from Dustin Wolf and Dan Vladar

Wolf boasts a record of 8-4-1 with a .918 SV% and a 2.59 GAA, along with +5.1 goals saved above expected, but Vladar is the expected starter for tonight's contest. At the time of writing this, the starting goalie has not been confirmed. That said, Vladar's numbers are impressive as well, as he is earning .905 SV% with a 2.59 GAA and a +2.7 GSAx, very strong numbers for a backup.

This goaltending tandem has needed to be as good as they've been because the Flames offense is not the strongest. Calgary is the fifth lowest-scoring team in the NHL, averaging just 2.54 goals per game with a power play that's clicking at 20.6%.

The Pittsburgh Penguins isn't the best team defensively, and they have certainly not gotten great goaltending, but the Flames offense truly isn't all that concerning. The Penguins offense has also struggled to score goals consistently; they're only averaging 2.60 goals per contest, and their power play is at 20.3%. The Penguins have only tallied 11 goals in their last five games.

Flames vs Penguins same-game parlay (SGP)

Jonathan Huberdeau Over 0.5 points

Connor Zary Over 0.5 points

MacKenzie Weegar Over 2.5 shots

Written by Kyle LaRusic

Pittsburgh is surrendering the most goals per game, creating an excellent opportunity for Jonathan Huberdeau and Connor Zary to get going. Both players share time on the first line and PP1, meaning plenty of ice time for the pair to capitalize.

MacKenzie Weegar is seeing time on the top power-play unit, and he hasn't been shy about letting it fly. Weegar had five shots last game, and I expect more of the same tonight.
