The Calgary Flames are holding onto a playoff spot 50 games into the season. Their home success is a big reason why as they own an impressive 16-7-3 record in Calgary and have done a great job of slowing down opposing offenses.
My Red Wings vs. Flames predictions see more of the same coming tonight, with a low-scoring game in the cards between Detroit and Calgary.
Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for February 1.

My Flames analysis
The Calgary Flames are a very stingy team on home soil. They've conceded just 2.54 goals per 60 minutes of play, which ranks them with the likes of Vegas and Carolina.
It clearly makes a difference to be able to get their top defensive players out in the matchups they want. When the Flames do run into defensive trouble, rookie Dustin Wolf has proven himself capable of bailing the team out.
He owns a 19-8-2 record and a sparkling .917 SV%. If you isolate home games, Wolf’s numbers reach even greater heights: His .935 SV% has only been bested by Anthony Stolarz.
Wolf and the Flames are likely to cause problems for the Detroit Red Wings’ offense. Detroit sits 23rd in goals per game on the road and dead last in high-danger chances generated.
The Wings' numbers have improved slightly since Todd McLellan took over, but they still rank in the bottom third of the league in both categories.
On the flip side, the Flames don’t score very much. They sit 28th in goals per game and 30th in shooting percentage, but they're built to prevent goals.
Considering the success Calgary has had under Ryan Huska playing that style, I expect it to continue tonight.
Flames vs Red Wings same-game parlay (SGP)
Nazem Kadri is the team’s best volume shooter. He's averaged 3.3 shots per game on the year and cleared 2.5 shots at a healthy 58% clip. Kadri faced the Red Wings earlier this season and enjoyed great shooting success, generating five shots on nine attempts.
The Red Wings rank Bottom 10 in shots allowed to centers over the last 10 games. This is a nice spot for Kadri to build on his success against them.
For all Detroit’s faults, it's done a nice job generating shots of late. The Wings rank Top 10 in shot rate at 5-on-5 and on the power play over the past 10 games.
There should be plenty of rubber sent toward Calgary’s net, offering ample opportunity for Rasmus Andersson — who has multiple blocks in 69% of home games this season — to step in front of a couple of pucks.
