Sidney Crosby has been a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins since he entered the league in 2005, leading the franchise to three Stanley Cups and a plethora of playoff appearances.

However, with Crosby's career winding down and Pittsburgh seemingly nowhere near contention, is a breakup between the two inevitable? And if so, what are Sidney Crosby's next team odds? I answer those questions and more below.

Could Sidney Crosby retire?

Although Sid is no longer a kid (wink wink), zero signs point to No. 87 hanging up the skates before next season. Crosby just recorded a record 20th point-per-game season and is currently tearing it up for Team Canada in IIHF play.

Crosby's career is closer to the end than the beginning, but he ain't done yet...

Sidney Crosby next team odds (if he leaves the Penguins)

Team Odds
Canadiens Montreal Canadiens +300
Avalanche Colorado Avalanche +400
Golden Knights Vegas Golden Knights +550
Red Wings Detroit Red Wings +750
Jets Winnipeg Jets +800
Stars Dallas Stars +900
Panthers Florida Panthers +1000
Lightning Tampa Bay Lightning +1000
Rangers New York Rangers +1600
Maple Leafs Toronto Maple Leafs +1800

Canadiens Montreal Canadiens

The Habs sitting atop this board may puzzle some, but the more you think about it, the more it makes sense.

Crosby has been on the record saying the Canadiens were his favorite team growing up, and while playing for them might not be a childhood dream like it was for John Tavares playing with the Maple Laffs Leafs, there still could be some incentive.

Sid will likely have complete say on what team he goes to, as Pittsburgh will want to honor his request, and the Habs have enough pieces to help set the Pens up for a future after Crosby without completely selling the farm.

Avalanche Colorado Avalanche

Will Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon have the same on-ice chemistry they do in front of the camera? According to the odds, we have a good chance of finding out.

The relationship between the Nova Scotia natives is no secret, and Colorado will want to keep its star player happy after dumping Mikko Rantanen to avoid shelling out a big contract. What better way to make that happen than to bring in his friend?

It also doesn't hurt that Crosby immediately adds a boost to the Avs top six, and they'll once again be in the hunt come next postseason. Sid to Colorado could shake the hockey world on trade deadline day.

Golden Knights Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights are in the Top 3 not because Crosby is dying to live in Sin City, but rather because Vegas has proven it isn't scared to make big-time moves to acquire star talent.

Back in 2024, the Knights won both the Tomas Hertl and Noah Hanifin sweepstakes, and they also pulled the trigger back in 2021 to secure Jack Eichel.

Crosby has a no-trade clause, so he'll need to be convinced Vegas is where he wants to go, but history tells us this franchise will do what it takes to land him.

Sidney Crosby contract at a glance

Sid the Kid still has one year left on his current two-year deal, meaning he won't be hitting free agency this summer. If Crosby is leaving, he'll most likely be moved via trade to ensure he doesn't leave the Pens empty-handed.

It's also important to mention the Penguins' captain hasn't mentioned leaving, but if his team looks horrendous come February, rumors will start to swirl.

What team that will be remains to be seen, but odds give us some idea of where the future Hall of Famer could call his new home away from home.
