We’ve got a busy NHL betting slate tonight with 13 games on tap, including an Eastern Conference showdown between the New Jersey Devils and Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotia Bank Arena.
Former Maple Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe returns to Toronto tonight as the Devils bench boss with his team favored to win, yet it’s the Auston Matthews goal market that has my eye for my Buds best bet this evening in our Maple Leafs vs. Devils predictions.

My Leafs analysis
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to stop a three-game skid tonight when they welcome in Sheldon Keefe’s New Jersey Devils to Scotia Bank Arena.
The Buds have had a lot of success against New Jersey, winning seven of the last 10 games against the Devils, averaging 3.6 goals per game.
The Leafs are also 2-0 against them this season after spoiling Keefe’s home debut back in October and a 2-1 win in overtime on December 10. However, Toronto will need some help from top offensive players to complete the season sweep. Especially with John Tavares now out week-to-week with a knee injury.
This means it’s time for Auston Matthews to step up and put this Leafs team on his back as he did a year ago when he scored 69 goals.
Luckily, the Leafs captain has fared extremely well against this Devils team throughout his career, netting 19 goals in 20 games against them and scoring in five of his last six outings against Jersey. He also has beaten the projected starter Jacob Markstrom eight times in 15 matchups vs. the Swedish netminder.
Matthews has also been scoring regularly since returning from his re-aggravated back injury with four goals in six games, including Toronto’s lone goal the other night against Dallas.
Additionally, anytime the books are willing to pay plus money (+120) for the three-time rocket winner to score in a game, I will usually take that value as it’s a rare occurrence.
Maple Leafs vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)
For the first leg of the SGP, we’ll stick with the best bet and take Auston Matthews to score an anytime goal.
Next, we’ll keep it rolling with the Matthews prop market and take him to record 3+ shots. AM34 is averaging 3.86 shots per game this season, and he’s hit this number in 15 of the 20 career outings against New Jersey.
For the final leg of our SGP, let's roll with Bobby McMann to record 2+ shots on net. He’s had 23 multi-shot games over his last 29 outings for a 79% win rate on this prop bet. Plus, with the game being on home ice, that third line should see some favorable offensive zone starts to give them a better chance to generate offense and get shots on goal.
