Oilers vs Golden Knights Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Oilers In Tough vs. Vegas

The Edmonton Oilers hope the All-Star break did nothing to slow their momentum down as they seek win number 17 in a row on Tuesday night in Vegas. Given the goaltending matchup, our NHL picks see a low-scoring battle that'll test the Oilers' mettle.

Tuesday’s NHL nightcap features a Pacific Division tilt between the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights. NHL odds have Edmonton as a road favorite while the total has bounced between six and 6.5.

The Oilers return from the All-Star break still riding their 16-game win streak, sitting one game away from tying the NHL record.

Will Edmonton continue this historic winning streak, or can Vegas put that to a halt on home ice? Find out in my free NHL picks for Oilers vs. Golden Knights on Tuesday, February 6.

Oilers vs Golden Knights predictions

Part of Edmonton’s historic 16-game win streak is its ability to keep the puck out of its own net. The Oilers have allowed a staggering two or fewer goals against in 14 straight games, which is a pretty outrageous trend.

Subsequently, there have been six or fewer total goals scored in 12 of those 14 games. This trend is a product of two things: great blue-line play and strong goaltending.

Edmonton is doing a terrific job at limiting high-danger scoring chances, now ranking eighth in the league in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60) at 5-on-5. Backing up this strong play at the blue line is goaltender Stuart Skinner, who is projected to guard the cage on Tuesday.

Skinner has gone nuclear during this stretch, winning each of his past 11 starts while allowing two or fewer goals in all 11. Check out this stat line over that span: 11-0, .954 SV%, and a 1.26 GAA.

This means that we could be in store for a tremendous goaltending battle as Adin Hill is slated to start across the ice. He returned from injury prior to the break and picked up exactly where he left off, allowing just two goals in each start with a commanding .950 SV%.

On the season, Hill is now 12-2-2 with a .936 SV% and 1.94 GAA. It helps Hill’s cause that, like Skinner, he is playing behind a team that plays strongly in their own zone.

At 5-on-5, Vegas ranks 13th in xGA/60. Yes, both teams also boast tremendous offenses, but that is why we are catching this total at six with –105 shaded to the Under at SIA.

With that said, both blue lines are strong and the Skinner/Hill matchup has the makings of a goaltender battle.

My best bet: Under 6 (-106 at SIA)

Under 6

Oilers moneyline

While I like the Under in this matchup, this same game parlay is a way to involve betting Edmonton at plus-money to tie the NHL record of 17 consecutive games won. While Hill’s stats are stronger when looking at the season as a whole, Skinner has been unbeatable for over a month and should be able to keep up with him.

Meanwhile, the Oilers rank higher than the Knights in goals scored per game, shots on goal per game, power play percentage, shooting percentage, faceoff percentage, shots on goal allowed per game, and penalty kill percentage. They are also the stronger team analytically, ranking higher in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) and xGA/60 at 5-on-5.

Oilers vs Golden Knights moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Oilers opened as a –135 favorite and remain at that price at the time of writing. I think the market is going to keep inflating this line, mainly for all the aforementioned variables above.

That brings us to the total, which opened at six or 6.5 depending on the shop. At SIA, we are catching a favorable price of Under 6 at –105, but you can also lay more juice and take the Under 6.5 if you wish to go that route.

I think either is a good play, although the trends certainly point to six at –105 being the more valuable wager.
