It's another big 10-game slate tonight on the ice, which means a ton of great plus-money props to choose from.
I'm betting on a Toronto Maple Leafs Leaf forward getting a promotion to the second line, looking at a one-team stack for the surging Detroit Red Wings, and backing a first-period bet in Pittsburgh that screams goals.
These are my three favorite NHL player props for Tuesday, January 7.

Today’s NHL prop picks and best bets
Prop bet #1: Bobby McMann Over 0.5 points
The Toronto Maple Leafs have a great scoring matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers, who are still dealing with goalie issues as Sam Ersson remains out. Toronto has dominated the head-to-head matchup, winning nine of the last 10 meetings, and with Auston Matthews back, the Leafs offense is looking even better.
While Matthews gets all the attention, I'm looking at Bobby McMann, who has been promoted to the second line and is skating with John Tavares and William Nylander, which is great company. McMann is a whopping +144 for a point today at FanDuel — and as short as +120 in some spots, but still a buy at that number. The whole line of McMann/Tavares/Nylander to get a point is also a tempting +375.
Books are always a little slow to price new opportunities but McMann will see more ice, is in a great scoring matchup, and is insulated with great scorers on the second line. I also prefer taking second lines on the road as home teams usually use their best defensive matchups vs. the top line.
Prop bet #2: Patrick Kane + Alex DeBrincat Over 0.5 points each
The Detroit Red Wings are 4-1 SU under new head coach Todd McLellan and get to hopefully run up the score vs. the Ottawa Senators, who are returning home after a lengthy two-week, eight-game road trip and still don’t have No.1 goalie Linus Ullmark.
The Sens are rolling with Anton Forsberg in net and the backup has allowed 3+ goals in six straight starts. Detroit can score tonight and is riding a power play with multi-goal games in three straight.
Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat are the targets for a stack today. The pair plays on the second line and PP1 and has pointed in four straight matches. They’ve also gotten 2+ points each in two of those contests. The wingers are +180 for a point apiece today and is one of the best double stacks on the board — especially with the market’s price correction of the prop.
Prop bet #3: Blue Jackets vs. Penguins both teams to score first period YES
The Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Pittsburgh Penguins is my favorite match for goals tonight. Combined, these teams are 50-29-2 O/U. Pittsburgh has the worst overall goals-against average in hockey and the BJs have the worst road GAA. Both offenses have been scoring and the triple-double stack with both top lines is already in the account.
But another quick-hitter is going in there, and that’s both teams to score in the first period at +140. It’s a great market to pivot to in projected high-scoring games where the Over 6.5 is -115. Neither team defends well nor has good goaltending and each power play could also find the back of the net.
Pittsburgh’s PP is 9-for-24 over its last six games while Columbus is 7-for-16 over its last six. There's a lot to like in terms of goals and I love +140 for both teams to score in the first 20 minutes.
