The Florida Panthers are up 3-2 in the series through five games and it’s a well-deserved lead at that. The Cats have been the much better team throughout the series with a strong advantage in shots on goal, scoring chances, and overall shot attempts. The New York Rangers have stayed in it due to goaltending, special teams, and clutch goals, but they’ve been severely outplayed.
The Panthers have outshot the Rangers 169-127 through five games (33.8 - 25.4 on average) with New York winning the shots on goal battle just once in this series, back at home in Game 2. The Rangers were outshot 37-23 and 40-23 in Games 3 and 4 in Florida and we should see similar numbers on Saturday night in Sunrise.
Igor Shesterkin has been up to the task with at least 34 saves in three straight games. Since the second round against the Hurricanes, the Rangers have been averaging a league-worst 35.6 shots on goal against per game while managing just 25.8 themselves. Shesterkin has had at least 33 saves in four of his last five road games.
The Panthers should come out firing pucks on net early and often, and they won’t let up throughout the game. Florida is a heavy favorite in this game for a reason and the Cats should pile up the shots on goal against Shesterkin and the Rangers.
