Rangers vs Sabres Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

Neither the Rangers nor Sabres are playing particularly well, and both defenses are struggling. Still, there's value in hitting a player like Chris Kreider's shots on goal prop when facing a defense as weak as Buffalo's.

Two slumping teams meet tonight at KeyBank Center as the New York Rangers visit the Buffalo Sabres.

My Rangers vs Sabres predictions are eyeing Chris Kreider to get his fair share of pucks on net against a dismal Buffalo blue line.

My NHL picks for Wednesday, December 11, explain why I'm bullish on Kreider before the puck drops at 7 p.m. ET on TNT.

Rangers vs Sabres prediction

My best bet
Chris Kreider Over 2.5 shots on goal (-115 at bet365)

My analysis

The New York Rangers have fallen off a cliff, going just 2-8-0 in their last 10. While Chris Kreider and the rest of the offense haven’t scored much over the last couple of weeks, the winger has been getting his chances.

Kreider registered three shots on net in a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night and six the evening before against the Seattle Kraken. In fact, he’s hit the Over in shots on goal in four of his last six.

It feels like only a matter of time until Krieder ends his cold skid, scoring just once in the last seven contests. But, instead, we’ll focus on the shots, which offer immense value tonight. Kreider also fired three shots on target against the Buffalo Sabres in early November.

Plus, the 33-year-old averaged 2.66 shots on net in three outings versus Buffalo in 2023-24. The Sabres are 20th in SOG allowed and have been playing extremely poorly on the defensive end.

Rangers vs Sabres same-game parlay (SGP)

Chris Kreider Over 2.5 shots on goal

Tage Thompson anytime goal

Over 6

Tage Thompson is already more than halfway to his entire scoring total from last season and we’re only 23 games in. Thompson has scored 15 times and supplied seven assists, sitting second on the roster behind Alex Tuch with 22 points.

Although Buffalo is winless in seven, Thompson has found the back of the net four times in four games. He scored once in a loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday and netted twice earlier in the month against the Colorado Avalanche.

Thompson scored in November vs. New York and has tallied 11 of his 15 goals on home ice.

The goals have been flowing in recent meetings between Buffalo and New York, with the Over cashing in back-to-back matchups and a minimum of six scored in four consecutive games between the two.

Three of the Rangers’ last four games have gone over six goals. As for the Sabres, three of their last four have surpassed six. Neither team is great defensively and they both have some weapons that can bury the puck in the back of the net. The trends also point to a relatively high-scoring affair here.
