The Ottawa Senators kick-start a nine-game road trip bookending the holiday break with a date with the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday, December 17.

A 7-2-1 run has Ottawa in an Eastern Conference wild-card spot, and our top Senators vs. Kraken predictions call for the Sens to put one more tally in the wins column tonight.

My Senators analysis

The Ottawa Senators have been building momentum fueled by elite goaltending from No. 1 Linus Ullmark.

Ottawa has allowed just 2.3 goals per game during the heater, and Ullmark has risen to the occasion with a 6-0-1 record, .950 save percentage, 1.55 GAA, and 5.24 total goals saved above average.

Of course, the Sens have been solid in the underlying numbers at 5-on-5 all season and rank ninth in Corsi For percentage (51.7%) and 11th in expected goals percentage (51.5%). Add a sixth-ranked 26.5 power-play percentage, and the puzzle pieces are finally beginning to fit for the Sens.

Turning to tonight's matchup, the Seattle Kraken have a lower CF% and xGF% at 5-on-5 and sport a run-of-the-mill 8-7-2 home record. It’s reflective of their solid but unspectacular collection of skaters jumping the boards, and Seattle has been bailed out by the play of No. 1 goalie Joey Daccord.

Daccord has posted a high-end .916 SV%, 2.45 GAA with the third-most GSAA (25.38) dating back to the beginning of last season.

I’m anticipating more of the same from both teams tonight, with Ottawa generating enough quality scoring chances to beat Daccord at least one more time than Seattle can solve Ullmark.

Senators vs Kraken odds analysis

In no way am I surprised to see this moneyline moving in Ottawa's direction. I also anticipate additional action on the Senators tonight and would recommend backing them to -135.

The 5.5 total at Pinnacle is an accurate number, and there has been early movement to the Under. It aligns with the solid goaltending from both Ullmark and Daccord, in addition to the highlighted improved defensive play from Ottawa during its 7-2-1 surge up the standings.
