The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings have travelled in opposite directions before meeting in Motor City on Thursday, March 27.

Ottawa has cruised into the No. 1 Wild-Card seed in the Eastern Conference, while Detroit has almost entirely drifted out of the postseason race.

My Senators vs. Red Wings predictions and NHL picks expect the Sens to keep the good times rolling tonight.

Senators vs Red Wings prediction

My Senators pick: Senators moneyline (-124 at Pinnacle)

My Senators analysis
The Ottawa Senators head to Motor City riding a 7-3 run, their season plagued with inconsistency, which includes No. 1 goalie Linus Ullmark’s play and availability.

He’s won six of his past eight starts despite an uncharacteristic .896 SV% and 3.02 GAA. Those metrics are largely boosted by allowing four goals in consecutive losses to the Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche, and he bounced back last time out with a tidy, 25-save win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Ullmark also stood tall with a 48-save win over the Detroit Red Wings during a 2-1 win on March 10.

Simply put, the Sens are winning without the most consistent play from Ullmark, and I expect him to build off Saturday’s solid showing.

This is also a favorable matchup with the Red Wings having all but dropped out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference during their active 3-10 stretch. The Wings have a league-low 63.0 penalty-kill percentage while allowing the fifth-most goals per game.

Detroit also has goaltending issues with Cam Talbot and Petr Mrazek both nursing undisclosed injuries, and Alex Lyon allowing four goals on just 27 shots during Tuesday’s 5-2 road loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Additionally, while Andrew Coop isn’t the most recognizable name, he ranks fifth in points per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 for the Wings and has missed the past 15 games. The veteran center is clearly missed, even if he didn’t have a go-to offensive role or sport eye-popping underlying metrics.

Senators vs Red Wings odds analysis

There has been back-and-forth action on this moneyline at Pinnacle, but the odds haven’t drifted far. The shop opened Ottawa -120, and the Sens are trading at -124 as of Thursday morning.

Ottawa has gone Under the number in 27 of its past 46 road games (+10.90 Units / 22% ROI), so this total moving to the Over at Pinnacle is a little surprising.

Detroit struggling has had an impact. Pinnacle opened its 6.0 total with a +102/-117 split, and the number is trading at -104/-108 as of Thursday morning.
