The Ottawa Senators have been playing some outstanding hockey as of late, they have lost two of their last three games, but they have been trending in a very positive direction. Tonight’s game will be extra emotional for them, as it’s the first time they’re playing the Buffalo Sabres since the trade that was made at the deadline between the two teams.
It’s Dylan Cozens return to Buffalo tonight, and his teammates will be playing for him.

My Senators pick: Ottawa Senators to win in regulation (+109 at Pinnacle)
My Senators analysis
The Ottawa Senators have finally found some consistency in their game. They’re coming off of a huge win on the road against the New Jersey Devils and now have a five-point lead ahead of the teams on the outside looking in. The Senators are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, which is the sixth best in the NHL and they have been scoring goals at will lately. In those 10 games, the Senators are averaging 3.60 goals per game and a big part of that success is their power play, which is clicking at a 26.7% rate.
They have plenty of guys that are producing and scoring goals right now, Brady Tkachuk has led the way with six goals in this span, but there is a plethora of guys who have each scored four goals in the last 10 games. Those guys are David Perron, Michael Amadio, Drake Batherson, and Shane Pinto.
In goal, Linus Ullmark has been such a difference-maker for the Senators. The numbers might not be the prettiest he’s ever put up, but Ullmark is 7-2-1 in his last 10 starts and is skating to a .900 save percentage and a 3.10 goals-against average. To Ullmark’s defense, over this latest stretch, the Senators are allowing the seventh-most shots against per game, surrendering 29.6 per contest.
Not only is this a revenge game for Ottawa because of Cozens, but the Buffalo Sabres have won both of the two previous meetings, so tonight they will look to avoid a season sweep.
Senators vs Sabres odds analysis
The Buffalo Sabres may have won both of the previous meetings, but there is no denying the fact that the Ottawa Senators are the better hockey team right now. Sure, the Sabres just beat the Winnipeg Jets, but they’re 4-6-1 in their last 11 games and they’ve been allowing 4.18 goals against per game in that span, which is the worst in the NHL in that window.
Ottawa’s offense has been firing on all cylinders, and this Buffalo blue line and goaltending cannot be trusted. James Reimer is the expected starter tonight for the Sabres and he has only started three games in the month of March. In those three games, he’s 1-1-1 with a .884 save percentage and a 3.36 goals-against average, the Senators might be able to feast on him tonight.
The Senators are playing the right way and getting hot at the most important time of the year, this game should be no problem for them.
