Two of the league's better teams collide in New Jersey tonight, with the Devils hosting Dallas. Both teams are coming off one-goal losses but our NHL betting picks expect the Stars to struggle in Jersey.

The New Jersey Devils and Dallas Stars are both playing the latter half of a back-to-back tonight after both losing one-goal games last night.

The Devils have lost two games in a row, which is very rare to see from them this season. They will most likely face Scott Wedgewood, since Jake Oettinger started last night and has played the team's last four games in a row. Akira Schmid should be expected to play in goal for New Jersey but no matter who is in goal, I expect a strong bounce back from the Devils — find out why with my NHL picks for the Devils vs. Stars.

Stars vs Devils best odds

Stars vs Devils picks and predictions

The Devils probably deserved to win their game last night, but seven seconds ended up costing them. They had a 3-1 lead in the second period, but then the Rangers scored twice in seven seconds to tie it up before winning in overtime. The Devils have been one of the best teams in the league all season long, especially on home ice, skating to a 10-4-1 record at the Prudential Center.

The Devils and Stars are two of the best offensive teams in the league, New Jersey is averaging 3.68 goals per game (third in the NHL) and the Stars are right behind them, scoring 3.66 per game (4th). That being said, the Stars haven’t been as hot as of late, losing three out of their last four games and only scoring five goals in their previous three contests.

It’s likely that they will face Akira Schmid, who has had a strong season for the Devils when he has been needed. He enters this game boasting a 5-1-0 record with an incredible .940 save percentage along with a 1.70 goals against average. He also has one of the league’s best goals saved above expectation at +5.1.

Not only is New Jersey one of the most elite offensive teams, but it also gets the job done in its own end, as it’s only behind Boston for the best goals against average in the league.

The Stars haven’t had the best of luck in their second game of a back-to-back as they are 0-4 in their last four in that situation.

The Devils have responded to adversity all year thus far, so I have no reason to believe they won’t do so again. I like New Jersey to win this one in regulation.

Stars vs Devils moneyline analysis

The Stars are having a bit of a rough stretch at the moment, especially with their power play unit. They haven’t scored a goal on the man advantage in their last four games and have only scored twice on their last 19 attempts. With the Devils being one of the better teams on the penalty kill, the Stars' struggles on the man advantage can definitely continue.

The Devils shouldn’t feel too discouraged about the way they’re playing right now. Sure, they have lost two games in a row, but both of those contests were certainly winnable for them. The one thing that they can fall back on is their goaltending. Regardless of who’s in net, the Devils are a very difficult team to score on.

New Jersey has the advantage in this matchup on both sides of the puck and I trust it to get the job done on home ice.

Stars vs Devils Over/Under analysis

The Stars and Devils both have a strong one-two punch in goal, which proves why they are both Top-10 defensive teams in the league. If Scott Wedgewood gets the nod for the Stars, they won’t have as good of a chance as with Jake Oettinger, but he can certainly hold his own. He enters this game with a record of 5-4-2 along with a .908 save percentage and a 3.04 goals against average.

There is a ton of talent on both of these teams. Jason Robertson has been one of the best players in the league this season for the Stars, currently sitting at third in points with 42, but he has gone four straight games without scoring a goal and only has one assist in that span. The Stars go as he goes, but lately, he hasn’t had that magic touch. Dallas will have its work cut out for it against a very strong defensive Devils team.

Everyone knows the Devils can score as well, but they might be a little fatigued after an overtime game against the Rangers last night. The Over seems a little too high for my liking between two good teams, I like this game to go Under.
