Stars vs Flames Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

A Wild Card spot remains in sight for the Calgary Flames as they have done a solid job at keeping the puck out of the net from their opponents, plus based on how the Dallas Stars have been trending on the Under; expect the same to occur in this matchup.

The Calgary Flames have won four consecutive games as they continue to push towards a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.

They’ve done a great job of keeping the puck along the way, allowing no more than three goals in any of their victories.

My Stars vs. Flames predictions see that trend continuing Thursday night on home soil, where they’ve defended much better this season.

Let’s dive deeper into my NHL picks for March 27.

Stars vs Flames prediction

My Stars pick: Under 6 (-125 at BET99)

My Stars analysis
The Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars have been very kind to the pockets of Under bettors. Both have consistently played in low-scoring affairs, as evidenced by their extremely one-sided O/U records.

Just 28 of 70 Flames games have gone over the pregame total while the Stars have cleared in only 29 of 71 contests. Those are crazy splits, even factoring in some pushes – more so for Dallas – along the way.

I don’t expect the goals to be flowing in this one. The Flames are rested and at home, where they’ve done a much better job at keeping the puck out this season.

They have conceded 3.14 goals per game on the road compared to 2.74 on home soil. Their home numbers rank them 12th in the NHL, just behind the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues.

Rookie sensation Dustin Wolf is one of the biggest reasons why the Flames have performed so well in their own building. He owns a remarkable .925 save percentage in Calgary this season, tying him with Anthony Stolarz for the 4th best home save percentage.

Only Andrei Vasilevskiy, Connor Hellebuyck, and Darcy Kuemper have stopped pucks at a higher rate on home ice.

Wolf and the desperate Flames are likely to make things difficult on the Stars, who are playing their third game in four nights. It’s a tough schedule spot – and matchup – for them to produce a lot of offense.

On the other side, the Stars have allowed just seven goals over their last four games and haven’t conceded more than three goals in regulation since March 8th.

They’ve done a great job of limiting opposing offenses. That should continue with Casey DeSmith between the pipes as the Stars’ backup has posted a .916 save percentage on the season and ranks 4th in that category since the 4 Nations tournament.

Stars vs Flames same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 6

Jonathan Huberdeau Over 1.5 shots

Mikko Rantanen Over 2.5 shots

Jonathan Huberdeau is having a sneaky good season as a shooter. The veteran winger has scored 27 goals and sits just three shy of matching his career high.

He is being relied upon as one of the team’s go-to finishers and his shot rates reflect that. Huberdeau has multiple shots in 61% of his games and managed a 70% hit rate over the last 30.

He has fared especially well on home soil. Huberdeau has recorded at least two shots in eight of his last 10 in Calgary, over which time he averaged 4.5 attempts per game.

Those numbers are much better than what he managed on the road over the same period, averaging 3.3 attempts spanning the past 10.

Huberdeau has recorded six shots through two head-to-head meetings with the Stars. His success should continue against a fatigued side still playing without defensive stalwart Miro Heiskanen.

Mikko Rantanen faced the Flames earlier this month and took full advantage, recording five shots on nine attempts.

The Flames have given up the 9th most shots to wingers over the last 10 and Rantanen, who hasn’t scored in seven straight, could be trigger happy looking to put that streak to an end.
