Neither side showed great form as of late, but this should be an entertaining match, with lots of attacking on display for both teams.
Both Aston Villa and Chelsea still hope to finish the campaign inside the Champions League seats, so a lot is at stake when the two meet at Villa Park.
After their direct encounter, there will only be 12 games left until the end of the season, so every misstep could prove vital.
Here are my Aston Villa v Chelsea predictions and free betting picks for Saturday, February 22.
Premier League predictions for Aston Villa vs Chelsea
My best bet:
Over 2.5 goals (-173 at TonyBet)
My analysis
There have been over 2.5 goals in Chelsea's last five Premier League matches. Aston Villa has seen over 2.5 goals being scored in seven of their previous eight games in front of Chelsea in all competitions.
At the same time, Chelsea hit the net at least twice in seven of their last eight away games vs. Villa.
It's safe to say that these two love going at each other. Despite Chelsea losing pace since the end of December, they are still in the race for the Champions League seats.
Their trip to Villa Park could prove an excellent opportunity for a statement result moving into the final third of the Premier League fixtures' calendar.
In their last four Premier League matches, Chelsea have won vs. Wolves (3-1) and West Ham (2-1) and lost against City (3-1) and Brighton (3-0).
Their last result, the 3-0 defeat at Brighton, is highly troubling for manager Enzo Maresca and his men, who will need to show some ego in front of another contender for Champions League football.
Villa, on the other hand, had their ups and downs, but they are fresh from a midweek 2-2 home draw vs. Liverpool. It was a game that highlighted their capacity to trouble any opponent, and Chelsea should have taken notes from Wednesday's clash.
Villa vs. Chelsea on Saturday evening should be full of entertainment and goals, so I'll stick to the Over 2.5 goals at -173 via TonyBet.
Note that the Over 3.5 goals bet is at +138. Chelsea Over 1.5 stands at -106, while Villa Over 1.5 pays -103.
Aston Villa vs Chelsea same-game parlay (SGP)
Michael Oliver is the match official chosen to lead this game. Oliver is known for his no-nonsense approach. Villa vs. Chelsea is expected to be tight and tense, so there should be much context for bookings.
Oliver is not holding back from showing red cards, either. He sent off players on three occasions in his last three Premier League outings.
With Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson out injured, Chelsea will rely on Christopher Nkunku to lead their attacks.
It's an excellent opportunity for the player Chelsea paid $70 million in 2023 to prove himself after many injuries have blocked him from reaching his best version.
