It’s a battle for fourth place in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon when Manchester City plays host to Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
The Citizens sit outside a Champions League position, two points behind Chelsea in the league table. But injuries and struggles in the midfield continue to plague them, and the Blues will look to capitalize and remain in the Top 4 of the table.
I break down the reasons you will want to back the visitors in our Manchester City vs. Chelsea predictions and betting picks for Saturday, January 25.

My analysis
It looked like Manchester City had finally figured things out. Heading into their midweek Champions League match with PSG, they’d won four of five matches, albeit against fairly lowly competition.
After a scoreless first half, the Citizens got a pair of goals four minutes apart to lead 2-0 after 53 minutes.
And then, as they’ve done so many times during this campaign, they capitulated. PSG leveled with two goals in five minutes and added two additional goals to win 4-2 and leave City with a must-win match next week to survive in Europe’s biggest club competition.
That gives Pep Guardiola a bit of a conundrum heading into the match with Chelsea. He’s dealing with a new injury crisis in his back line, with Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias both doubtful and John Stones just back from a long layoff.
Guardiola has got to manage his squad to not only try to move back into the Top 4, but also to have a balanced squad for the match with Brugges.
For Chelsea, that’s just another reason why I like them to get a result. The Blues are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, and are dealing with some injuries of their own in defense. They’ll also be sweating the fitness of midfielder Enzo Martinez.
But Manchester City can’t get results against teams that have attacking talent, and Chelsea has plenty of that.
Spearheaded by former City player Cole Palmer, Chelsea have scored 11 goals in their last four matches and possess more than enough pace on the wings to cause problems against a City side that struggles against counter-attacks.
Since the middle of December, Manchester City hasn’t beaten any team worth noting. Two weeks ago, Brentford overcame a 2-0 deficit to get a draw.
PSG overcame theirs this week to get a win.
Their only victories have come against teams in lower divisions or languishing near the bottom.
Chelsea aren’t perfect, and I don’t like them to keep a clean sheet. But I expect them to get a result against a vulnerable Manchester City side with one eye on Wednesday’s vital fixture.

Man City vs Chelsea Erling Haaland Player Props
If you want to back Manchester City’s Erling Haaland to score on Saturday, it’ll cost you some juice. He’s currently priced at -141 to find the back of the net. And while he’s scored goals in four of his last five starts, with five goals in total, he’s had mixed results against the Blues.
Haaland has faced Chelsea five times in the Premier League, scoring three goals. But while he scored in the reverse fixture back in the opening match of the campaign, he’s been held without a goal in three of their five meetings.
On the shots market, 4+ shots are priced at -148, while backing Haaland to take five or more will get you +125 odds. It’s also -148 for two of those shots to be on goal, while 3+ shots on target pays a hefty +250.
The striker has put three shots on target in three of his last four matches in the Premier League—but two of those outings were against Ipswich Town and Leicester City. He took just two shots, both on target, in the reverse fixture vs Chelsea.
That said, Chelsea have allowed five or fewer shots on goal in 17 of their 22 league matches this season.
