SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres hit three home runs Friday night, including a two-run, fifth-inning tiebreaker by Yangervis Solarte, to defeat the Colorado Rockies 8-5 at Petco Park.
The Padres knocked the Rockies out of the lead in the National League West with the win, which was their fifth straight. That's the longest win streak for San Diego since August 2015.
In the last 11 games, the Padres are 8-3. The Rockies have lost six of their last nine games.
The score was tied 4-4 thanks to a two-run homer by Padres catcher Austin Hedges in the bottom of the fourth.
Allen Cordoba led off the Padres' fifth with a double. Solarte followed with a 437-foot drive into the seats in right-center field off Rockies right-handed starter and loser German Marquez (4-3).
Solarte's fourth homer of the season was his first since May 2. His three hits boosted his average to .405 (15-for-37) since moving into the second slot in the Padres' order.
Wil Myers later hit his 12th homer of the season, off left-hander Mike Dunn for the Padres' final run in the seventh inning. Cordoba drove in the Padres' seventh run an inning earlier with a sacrifice fly.
Padres left-hander Clayton Richard (4-6) allowed four runs (three earned), 10 hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings to get the win. Brandon Maurer got his ninth save of the season, four of which have come in the past five games.
The Rockies scored three in the top of third to take the early lead, but the Padres battled back to tie the score at 4 in the fourth on Hedges' 10th home run of the season.
Colorado had a runner at first and two out in the third when DJ LeMahieu doubled to deep left center to end the scoreless tie. Nolan Arenado singled home LeMahieu and, after Mark Reynolds reached on an error by third baseman Ryan Schimpf, Ian Desmond singled home Arenado with the inning's third run.
The Padres got one back in the bottom of the third on a single and a steal of second by Chase d'Arnaud and a RBI single by Cordoba.
But after Solarte singled to put runners at the corners, Rockies shortstop Trevor Story turned a diving stop of a Myers shot into an inning-ending double play.
The Rockies regained their three-run lead in the top of the fourth on inning-opening singles by Story and Tony Wolters and a suicide squeeze by Marquez.
But Marquez couldn't hold the lead. Schimpf walked to open the third, moved to second on a wild pitcher, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Franchy Cordero's single back off Marquez's pitching hand.
After making a couple practice pitches, Marquez gave up the homer to Hedges, a 391-foot drive to left.
Marquez allowed six runs and eight hits, including the two-run homers by Hedges and Solarte, with a walk and nine strikeouts in five innings.
