Trent Grisham hit a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night to give the Padres a 6-5 win at San Francisco and a split of a doubleheader.
The Padres were the home team in the second game because it was the makeup of a game postponed in San Diego on Sept. 12 due to a false positive COVID-19 test.
Wilmer Flores hit a three-run homer off Padres reliever Drew Pomeranz in the sixth inning to give the Giants a 5-3 lead.
Tommy Pham opened the Padres' seventh with an infield single off reliever Sam Coonrod (0-2). Greg Garcia drew a one-out walk and Grisham pulled a home run to right off Coonrod.
Luis Patino (1-0) pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to earn his first major league win for the Padres.
Brandon Crawford, Flores and Mike Yastrzemski homered off Padres starter Chris Paddack in the opener, and the Giants turned back a seventh-inning Padres rally to win 5-4.
The split left the Giants (29-29) still in the hunt for a playoff berth. Although the Padres (35-23) lost the opener, they clinched the No. 4 seed and the homefield for all three games of the first round of the playoffs when St. Louis lost the first game of a doubleheader in St. Louis.
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run homer off Jeff Samardzija to cap a three-run third inning to give San Diego a 3-1 lead in the second game.
Pomeranz, who hadn't allowed an earned run in 19 previous appearances this season, struck out the first two Giants he faced in the top of the sixth. But Donovan Solano reached on an infield single ahead of a walk to pinch hitter Austin Slater. Flores then lined his second homer of the day and 11th of the season deep into the seats in left.
The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the second when Brandon Belt, who reached on a leadoff double, scored on Evan Longoria's ground out. San Francisco pulled to within 3-2 in the fourth when two Padres errors led to an unearned run.
Samardzija was charged with three runs on three hits in three innings. He struck out one.
Grisham finished with four RBIs for San Diego, and Eric Hosmer added two hits.
The Padres suffered another injury when right-handed starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet left after 3 2/3 innings with tightness in his right biceps. Lamet allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.
