Joe Musgrove and Ryan Weathers combined on a four-hit shutout, Manny Machado had three hits -- including a home run -- and Wil Myers drove in three runs Saturday night as the Padres defeated Arizona 7-0 in San Diego.
The win was the Padres' third straight over the Diamondbacks to open the season, marking only the fourth time in their 53-season history that the Padres have had a 3-0 start to a season.
San Diego County native Musgrove allowed three hits and no walks while striking out eight over six innings in his debut for the team he pulled for as a youngster. The six scoreless innings extended his streak of scoreless innings to 22 straight dating back to last season when he pitched for the Pirates.
Weathers allowed one single with three strikeouts to record the Padres' first three-inning save since 2008.
When the Padres scored four runs in the first two innings off Arizona starter Caleb Smith, it matched the total offensive support that Musgrove got in his first seven starts last year for the Pirates.
Machado hit a solo homer with one out in the first, his first hit of the season. The Padres added a second run in the inning on an RBI single by Ha-Seong Kim, the first Major League hit for the second baseman from South Korea.
The Padres made it 4-0 in the second when Myers followed walks drawn by Fernando Tatis and Tommy Pham with a two-out double to left-center. Machado made it 5-0 with an RBI single in the fourth while Myers and Jake Cronenworth had back-to-back RBI doubles in the sixth.
Arizona left-hander Smith allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in three innings. All three of the walks scored. Right-hander Riley Smith worked the final five innings for Arizona, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Arizona first baseman Christian Walker left the game in the bottom of the fourth when a low throw from shortstop Josh Rojas took a wild bounce and hit him below the left eye. He suffered a cut with swelling.
In another move Saturday, the Diamondbacks placed shortstop Nick Ahmed on the injured list (knee) and called up top shortstop prospect Geraldo Perdomo.
